Middle School No. 200 Children from special education schools in Lviv, Lopatyn and Vplykolubin, and those from the School for the Blind, N. 100, met at the Institute for Special Learning Special Education School School for the Deaf Ivan Franko Middle School First City “Gymnasium” Those participants not belonging to the above mentioned institutions, received prizes, certificates and the book, “Nature and Us” by mail. Each school greeted the representative from the UNWLA with the traditional bread and salt greeting. There were wonderful concerts at most of the schools. Most schools were happy to provide a tour of its establishment. All were very appreciative of the books they had received from the diaspora. Both teachers and principals voiced their appreciation, as well as their opin ion, on the value of such international youth contests. The following are excerpts from letters sent to the UNWLA. St. John The Baptist Ukrainian Catholic School, Newark, NJ Sister Chrysostoma Lukiw, principal Mrs. Maria Robak, Ukrainian language teacher “...We send our appreciation and thanks to the UNWLA for their efforts in organizing the inter national youth contest. The children have benefited tremendously and will continue to do so. They are reminded of the fact that many Ukrainian children are scattered across the globe and that they share similar ideas. They enjoy reading works by children from Ukraine, which enables them to practice their Ukrainian language skills... Once again, such contests are invaluable...” Metropolitan A. Sheptytsky School, Montreal, Canada Irene Pavliw, Principal “Please accept our sincerest admiration for your tremendous effort in strengthening real ties with Ukrainian children across the globe. May God bless you, and thank you for your valuable work.” Lviv Institute of Education Roman Shyjan, principal Vira Remazhevska, pedagogical administrator “Sincere thanks to the UNWLA for the organiza tion of the international children and youth contest Your work is immeasurably valuable and has especially specific meaning for chil dren with disabilities. It is a great experience for these children to feel equal with their “roves- nyky.” We hope to join such efforts in the fu ture.” Ukrainian School, Theodosia, Crimea Zoya Bahatova, principal “...It is wonderful that you planned a contest of such high standards and organization. You supply the children with wings, and these are so necessary...they must be encouraged and given hope so that one day they may soar like the eagle. Thank you for having the foresight and energy to help unite our brothers and sis ters all over the world, so that they may never lose sight of their common aim to work towards the glory of our beloved Ukraine. May God help you in all your endeavors. ” North Royalton, Ohio Lev (11 yrs. old) and Uliana (9 yrs. old) Horo- dyskyj “We thank you for the certificates, prizes, and books. We will continue to work for the glory of Ukraine.” City of Berdiansk, Zaporizhka oblast Olena Lukianchikova (16 yrs. old) “During the ceremony where prizes were dis tributed, I noticed that every student, not with standing their age, was treated as an individual and with great respect. I believe that that kind of humane treatment is absolutely indispensable in society. Unfortunately, that kind of treatment is so rare here. I can’t wait to participate in fu ture UNWLA contests. I thank you for making this day so special for everybody, including our parents. ” School No. 95, Lviv Natalia Kril, ecology teacher “Unfortunately, our school club, “Live Water,” found out about your contest too late. We’re writing in the hopes of establishing contact for your future reference. ” 151 www.unwla.org www.unwla.org
