For St. Basil's Orphanage “Soyuz Ukrainok” Branch 72 of New York City held a tea on the afternoon of December 6 at the Ukrainian Institute of America for two guests of honor from Philadelphia — Mother Su perior Euzebia and Sister Con stanta of St. Basil’s Orphanage. The occasion for the tea was to meet the Sisters and to turn over to the Orphanage before Christ mas the proceeds from the raffle which Branch 72 had sponsored for St. Basil’s benefit. The club members had been selling the raffle tickets for four months and the winners of the prizes had been announced at the group’s dance on October 20. The two top prizes were a 7-day cruise to Nassau by the Kow- basniuk Agency, NYC, and a cashmere sweater with mink shawl collar by furrier Stephen Kopiec, NYC, as well as other valuable prizes. After Mother Superior Euze bia and Sister Constanta had been welcomed by the club’s pre sident, Mrs. Mary Dushnyck, Mrs. Millie Smejka, the Raffle Chairman, presented Mother Superior Euzebia with a check for $613.25, payable to St. Ba sil’s Orphanage. Also, a check from club member Mrs. Helen Modrako for $10.00 was given to Mother Euzebia by Mrs. Stella Klawsnik in the absence of Mrs. Modrako. Mother Superior Euze bia graciously thanked the mem bers for the donations and ex pressed her gratitude to all those who had helped to make the raf fle a success by offering prizes. Prior to the tea, the Sisters were taken on a tour of the Uk rainian Institute by its admini strator, Mr. Julian Revay, Mrs. Mary Lesawyer, Branch Vice- President, and Mrs. Dora Pifko. The afternoon was a reward ing climax to months of hard work by the members of Branch 72 of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America. PREVIEW OF FILM ON UKRAINE Branch 72 of New York City is sponsoring a preview of a semi-documentary color film, with music, of an auto journey through Ukraine and Eastern Europe made by Mr. and Mrs. Myron Kuscenko last summer. The showing will take place on Sunday, April 7, at 4:30 p.m. at the Ukrainian Institute of Amer ica, 2 East 79th St., New York City. The Kuscenkos, traveling in a French Citroen automobile, spent three months in the coun tries behind the Iron Curtain, and visited Ukraine for six weeks. The 90-minute film will feature many Ukrainian scenes never before shown in this coun try, including pictures of a jour ney on the Dnieper in a hydro foil boat, women work gangs, a visit with relatives in a collect ive farm village, Yalta beach ac tivities, Ukrainian folk dancing, urban shopping and a rural free market center, etc. Mrs. Kuscen- ko will be the narrator. Branch 72 cordially invites the public to the preview of this sti mulating and educational film.
