E A S T E R EG G D E M O N ST R A T IO N OF B R A N C H 87 A T T R A C T S M A N Y V ISITO R S A dem onstration of E a ste r egg decorating techniques and a discussion of E a ste r bread (pas- ka) decorations w ere th e m ain attra ctio n s a t a special open m eeting held on M arch 28 by UNW LA B ranch 87 of Canton, Ohio, in th e F irs t Federal Sav ings and Loan A ssociation in Louisv i lle. The m eeting was opened by M rs. Sophia B arusew ycz, p resi dent of th e B ranch. The age-old w ax-and-coloring process w hich is em ployed in th e decoration of th e popular U krainian E a ste r eggs w as dem onstrated by M rs. A nna Juskiw . Miss Irene K ashu- bynska discussed E a ste r bread decorations and th e decoration of specially prepared spring sa lads and baked goods. Am ong th e m any in terestin g decora tions w ere flow ers m ade from eggs and vegetables, w hich Miss K ashubynska later used to dec orate m eat dishes. M im eograph ed copies of th e recipes w ere dis trib u ted am ong those present. Miss K ashubynska was helped in th e dem onstration by th e daugh te rs of th e B ranch m em bers. All th e local new spapers com m ented extensively on th e m eet ing, and one, th e “ C anton R e pos i to ry ,” dated Sunday, M arch 21, carried an en th u siastic a r ticle, en titled : “Colorful E ggs R eflect E a ste r Mood.” The a rti cle w as accom panied by a photo and a reproduction of a b eau ti fully decorated U krainian E a s t er egg. N E W B R E E D OF D R E S S E S T h ere’s a racy new breed of dresses fo r th e sum m er — “th e bared shoulder look.” These pro vocative and highly fem inine dresses expose one shoulder and cover th e o th er w ith ruffles, folds, bows, h alters, and w hat have you, and are certainly a delightful changeover from th e stan d ard cocktail and eve ning dresses. The fabrics used fo r these new dresses are so ft and moldy jerseys, silks, and chiffons in a v ariety of hues and designs — paisley p rin ts, g re a t bloom ing flow ers, and huge a b stra c t p rin ts. The fa b rics are cut on th e bias to slink sm oothly over th e body. Of special in tere st are th e back views of these dresses. Some exhibit hundreds of pleats ru nning to th e very hem , o th ers fe a tu re flu ffy bows, ruffles, folds, and long, flow ing tails draped over one arm to create th e illusion of a long sleeve. Some are tied in au th en tic In dian sari style. W hile m any of these charm ers give th e illusion of being com pletely artless and sim ple in design, th ey require superb de sign and fittin g to give one th a t com fortable, so ft look of under stated elegance. T he late M rs. K ulchycky, who fo r 19 years served as sec retary o f B ranch 46 of th e U N W LA in P h i ladelphia, will be re m em bered fo r her genuine devo tion to h er organizational du ties and her personal qualities w hich endeared her to all w ho knew her. The E xecutive B oard W h i ppany, N. J. On A pril 12, 1965 one of our beloved m em bers passed aw ay. M ary K icak, born July 25, 1906 in W est O range, N. J., resided in W hippany 36 years. She was a parishioner of St. Jo h n ’s U k rain ian C hurch and loved being a m em ber of our UNW LA B ranch 61 tho u g h she w as too ill to atten d th e m eetings. M ary K icak is survived by h er husband M ichael, a son, a g ran d son, and tw o sisters. M ary S uchorsky P resid en t b its and en tertain m en t m ade th e Convention a m em orable event. The U N W LA w as represented by M rs. A n astasia Volker, P ub lic R elations C hairm an. M rs. M ary D ushnyck, O rganizational C hairm an, w as also present.
