The New Building of the UNWLA H eadquarters at 4936 N. 13th St. in P hiladelphia 41, Pa. culated around and eyed the beautiful aprons displayed on the walls. The games got underway and each table was eagerly work ing for the prize, and w hat fun was had by all. It is gratifying indeed to have m em berships’ enthusiasm for a given project, but when guests share your enthusiasm it is a de lightful experience. One of our guests, Mrs. K atherine Yarem- chuk, member of Chapter 26, came to our p arty arm ed w ith a beautifully embroidered organdy apron as a gift. (Women’s intu ition! Else how did she know th a t we lost one of our tw enty aprons). This was a pleasant sur prise and not on the program so they went into a huddle and came up with an idea to raffle M rs. Yarem chuk’s gift, and do nate the proceeds to the press fund of the journal “Our Life.” An appropriate idea as October is considered a “book m onth.” Our sincere thanks to Mrs. Ya- rem chuk and the guests for en riching “Our Life” by $8.80. Cross-stitched Apron Project a success, and each member shared in it w ith a special feel ing of pride and joy, as the crea tion of our hands passed on to th e lucky winners. H andcrafts are not forgotten a rt even in these hurried and crowded days. Club women are perpetuating folk arts. Chapter 37 is tapping other skills, and another project, Project “A fghan.” A hard work i ng committee under Ann Stro- kon’s leadership has been work ing since last fall engaging mem bers and non-members in this project in the a rt of knitting. The goal is to knit six regulation size wool afghans for the pa tients at the Northville hospital as our Chapter’s Christm as gift to this w orthy institution. As Soyuzanky, as women, and as members of a Ukrainian com m unity we m ust also share our responsibility of the larger, the general community in which we live. Therefore, projects afghan, community chest, senior citizens, retarded children, cripple chil dren, in addition to projects So- yuz Ukrainok, Shevchenko fund, Congress Committee, Suspilna Opika, and so on. There are pro jects galore for any and every group, age, size and i nterest. As chapters of the U krainian Na tional Women’s League, and members of local chapter lets our resources, and our talents of the individual members and groups — create a program of service to others and your and your chapter’s rew ards will abound w ith growth and fulfillm ent.
