UNWLA Highlights The events in Eastern Europe shook the entire Free World. The struggle in Egypt and bloody terror in H ungary dem onstrated to the world how ardently the peoples are craving for freedom. Conflicts will continue until this longing is satisfied. Thus we must be always on the alert. A moment may come when our native land will be in need of as sistance, as the instance in H ungary has shown. Therefore, the UNW LA has resolved to create a relief fund in tended to lend assistance to Ukrainian women in their struggle for freedom of the people and for human rights. This fund has been nam ed T H E FUND OF FIV E HUNDRED, in memory of the greatest and bravest sacrifice of the Ukrainian women. TH E FUND OF FIV E HUNDRED shall continue as the expres sion of our preparedness. In the name of those 500 tortured under the tanks of bolshevik barbarians we are calling on all our p atrio ts: Let us get ready and work for our sisters and for freedom of Ukraine ! The Regional Council of D etroit, Michigan, resolved at its annual conference to initiate a campaign to gain 500 new members, in m em ory of 500 U krainian women murdered in Kingir. The conference likewise decided to call on other Regional Coun cils to follow this example. Surely their patriotism will prom pt them to effect this w orthy task. The V ice-President of your region will be representing the Cen tral Office of UNW LA at the annual m eeting of your Branch in De cember or January. The same pertains to the cities where the Region al Councils have already been in existence. Please, advise them of the date of the next yearly m eeting of your Branch. Because of the increase of the cost of publishing of our magazine, OUR L IFE, and in pursuance o-f the desire -expressed at the confer ences of Regional Councils, the subscription for OUR L IF E for 1957 has been increased to $3.00 yearly also for the UNW LA members, that is they will pay equally with the non-members. Hence we are reminding the Officers of the Branches to pay heed to this fact when collecting subscriptions. Our duty is also ever to remember that OUR L IF E has not hun dreds of thousands, or even tens of thousands of subscribers, as well as no highly paid advertisem ents, and thus it needs hearty support by our members who should never forget to arrange collections for the Press Fund of OUR LIFE. THE ASSOCIATION OF UKRAixxIAN WOMEN OF ENGLAND The Association of U krainian W omen of England held its an nual m eeting last October. The report of the Board showed its lively activity during 1955-56. The association has 14 branches in various localities. The organi zation has achieved most in the fields of education and folk-art. It is lending assistance to many Ukrainian kindergartens in Great Britain, and this year it com plet ed a course of kindergarten tea chers as there was a great need of them. To acquaint the English with the Ukrainian folk-art, the asso ciation is engaged in form ing its own collection of articles which are being donated or elaborated by its members. The collection is housed at present in the building of the Association of U krainians of Great Britain, in London. A part from this the Association of Ukrainian W omen of Great Britain conducted before last E aster a course of designing Eas ter eggs. The largest affiliated groups of the association are in the follow ing c ities: Bradford, M anchester, N ot tingham, Rochdale, Ashton, Tot- morden, Stock-on-Trent, Derby, Blackburn, Bolton, Bery.
