THE UKRAINIAN MUSEUM A CULTURAL EXPERIENCE Warm, colorful, a feast for the eyes — the Ukrainian Museum Gift Shop is a wonderful place to shop this Christmas season. The shop has an array of gifts that will bring joy to the hearts of the very youngest to the very youngest-at-heart. Toys to hug and love — the Ukrainian-clad teddy bears in embroidered vests and hats, and dolls in folk costumes are waiting to be adopted for Christmas. Christmas tree decorations, made of straw in a var iety of delightful shapes — angels, stars, horses, bas kets; little egghead clowns smile from under their color ful cone hats; delicate silvery ornaments that shimmer and shine are looking for a tree to grace. Then there are embroideries — bookmarks, pincu shions, napkins, pillows, “rushnyky”, shirts, vests, and so much more! A kaleidoscope of color patterned into lovely designs in traditional Ukrainian stitching styles, these will make gifts that are sure to be cherished and prized for a very long time. The Museum’s own — the catalogues, which accom panied every exhibit the Museum has presented in the ten years it has been in operation, are in themselves wonderful works. Scholarly research and excellent pho tography are combined within these catalogues to pres ent an in depth view of the wealth and uniqueness of Ukrainian culture and history. Some of the catalogues to ask for: “Pysanky and their Symbols”, “The Lost Architecture of Kiev”, "To Preserve a Heritage: The m . в. The Museum Gift Shop has shelves and shelves stacked with a variety of ceramic and wooden decora tive objects, such as plates, vases, candleholders, boxes, inlaid pipes and kitchen utensils. It also stocks the unmistakable ceramic work of artist Slava Gerulak. The Shop is ably run and supervised by Christine Pevny, the Museum’s archivist. Mrs. Pevny is very knowledgeable and helpful and will gladly aid the visitor in his or her quest for that perfect gift. Charming shop assistant Marusia Chamulak is on hand to lend a help ing hand in gift selection. In a few days the shop will have a reproduction of Alexander Archipenko’s “Woman Combing her Hair”. The lovely statuette is 13 3/4" high and makes an ele gant conversation piece in any home. Here is a new arrival on the museum shop’s book shelf it is — “Ukraine—A Historical Atlas” by Paul Robert Magocsi. A most unusual book, for it traces the history of Ukraine through its geography. This is an excellent addition to any library. The Shop also stocks books galore — wonderful art books such as “Hnizdowsky — Woodcuts 1944-1975”, “Nedilko”, “Nikifor”, “Maria Dol- nytsky — Enamel” and many others. For the discerning art lover there are woodcuts and etchings by Bohdan Bozemsky, Jacques Hnizdowsky, Lubomyr Hutsaluk, Myron Levytsky, and Arcadia Olen- ska Petryshyn. 30 ’НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ГРУДЕНЬ 1986 Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році .
