I UNWLA Highlights In the previous issue of Our Life the creation of 72 UNWLA Branch in New York City was announced. It was form ed by Am eri can-born women of U krainian descent. Their elected officers are: President, Mrs. M ary Dushnyck, Vice-President, Mrs. M ary Lesaw- yer. Secretary, Mrs. Lily Bochonko, and Treasurer, Mrs. Anna Bezko. These fine, strong women are the best guarantee of its suc cess. Our best wishes to all members of the new Chapter. * * * Our XIII Convention will be held on June 29th, 30th and July 1st in Philadelphia w ith delegates from all Regional Councils and 72 Branches. Also we hope to see m any delegates from our Junior Branches. The recent 35th anniversary of our organization listed m any able workers, who had helped to build up their Branches. L et’s rally again to build our future. * * * It is your voice th a t we w ant to hear, your wishes and ideas added to the program of the U krainian National Women’s League. We will appreciate your advice, and try to adju st it to our needs. We also hope for your initiative in our work. Only then can our achievement be fulfilled. NEW SCHOOL TERM Manor Junior College of the Sisters of St. Basil the G reat at Fox Chase Manor, Philadelphia, Pa., a two-year liberal a rts col lege for women is now accepting applications for students for the 1962-1963 term s according to Sister M. Olga, B.S. and M.S., Dean. The school is accredited by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is affiliated w ith the Catholic U niversity of America. It has been approved for veterans ed ucation and training facilities, Division of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, D epartm ent of Public Instruction for th e W ar Orphans Education Program . It holds m em bership in the Catholic Education A ss’n of Pennsylvania, Catholic Library A ss’n, International Federation of Catholic Alumnae and the Pennsylvania A ss’n of Junior Colleges. Sister M. WOMEN’S ACHIEVEMENTS The actress, Mrs. Eudokia Dychko-Blavatsky is conducting a radio transm ission in Philadel phia. H er program consists of features, interviews and com m ents on politics, all interwoven by records. Recently she celeb rated the 10th anniversary of the transm ission, and was congratu lated by her grateful listeners. Mrs. Yaroslava Sena from De troit, Mich., was granted first prize a t the Annual Ceramic E x hibition in the Kobo Hall. Mrs. Sena was talented in drawing during her studies in Ukraine. L ater she studied at the Cran- brook Museum A rt School and perfected her skill. Mrs. Em ily Zaporozetz, Det roit, Mich., was chosen “U krain ian of the year” by the U krain ian Graduates from D etroit and W indsor. The award was based on her work in behalf of the Uk rainian community, and to gen eral American groups. A native of Chicago, Mrs. Zaporozetz, h er husband Peter, and th eir three daughters live in D etroit. A ttorney Anna Chopek, Sup rem e Adviser of the U krainian National A ss’n was appointed A ssistant A ttorney General for the Commonwealth of M assachu setts. She is form er Vice-Presi dent of both th e U krainian Youth League of N orth America and of the U krainian Profession al Association. Besides her duty as A ssistant A ttorney General, Miss Chopek finds tim e to carry on a private practice. WFUWO LITERARY CONTEST On Sept. 11, 1961 the Ju ry for the L iterary Contest of WFUWO awarded three prizes. The first was to Sophia Parfanovych for her novel ‘T ick ,” the Life of a Dog. The second prize was awarded equally to Olga Lytwyn for her short story “Two W itch es” and Ann Peshko’s legends “Five Stories.” Tw enty-three w riters entered the contest.
