STRYZAK IS 70 Mrs. Sophia Stryzak, chairman of the Committee on Home Econ omy of UNW LA, has recently a t tained her 70tih year of age. The UNW LA members of Philadel phia m arked this birthday of tihe well-known U krainian patriot in our community of the city of 'bro therly love. She received many hearty congratulations and best wishes. Mrs. Stryzak joined our organ ization at the beginning of its founding. She has always been active in local branches and Avon general acknowledgm ent for her work. Now, as a chairman of tihe Committee on Home Bcon-omy of UNW LA, s!he is busily engaged in the economy of UNW LA, chiefly as regards the m ainten ance of the building of UNW LA. She is always helping to draw the U krainian community of the city to our building as the center of many and various patriotic acti vities. CHILDREN’S CHAMBER IN CLEVELAND The UNW LA Branches are dem onstrating an interesting in itiative. The U N W LA Branch 33 of Cleveland, Ohio, originated a children’s club. The sponsors of the venture took into account the overburdening of m others on Sa turdays when they usually do most of their work and go shop ping for the coming week. The meetings of the children are arranged in an adequate hall. A teacher who also outlines the program for the day, is in -charge of the club. She is assisted bv the chairm an of educational commit tee of the Branch. The children have to follow the program, including the prayer, exercies, singing, cutting out pap er designs, games, and listening to narration of fairy tales. At noon the children are having their lunch, and tihe whole program takes only 4 hours, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cham ber accommodates 15—20 children, 3-6 years old. At present the Branch 33 is en deavoring to form a continual kindergarten, whidh proves that the children’s chamber, or club, b a justifiable enterprise. DETROIT, MICH. Olena Teliha Club A group of young girls in D e troit with similar backgrounds, common interests, and boundless enthusiasm for all things trade- marked ‘“U krainian,” decided to incorporate all these qualities in to a functioning organization. They dedicated their club to a program of furthering their per sonal education in U krainian lit erary and cultural fields in order to perpetuate our customs in this conntry. Since the m others of the m ajority of the girls were mem bers of the UNW LA (Branch 23), they encouraged their daughters to request membership in the UNW LA a-s a junior branch. The splendid reputations of tfie UNW LA in D etroit a ttri butable to the considerable time and effort expended by members of the local branches in social and hum anitarian work, was a good recommendation and a deciding factor.
