We welcome new Members-at-Large: Ulana Decyk of Rhode Island, Lydia Decyk of Rhode Island, Motria Mychaj- luk of New Jersey, Dania Cehelsky of Pennsylvania. On July 15, 1994, Governor of New Jersey, Christine Todd-Whitman, appointed Patricia H. Kotyk-Zalisko, UNWLA Branch 98 member, as Public Guardian, Patricia, an attorney, is a third generation Ukrainian American and is the daughter of Sophia Kotyk, long time member of UNWLA Branch 72 in New York. She resides in Manalapan, New Jersey with her husband Walter and daughter, Laryssa. We congratulate Patricia and wish her all the best in this responsible position. The Office of the Public Guardian is empowered by New Jersey statute. The Public Guardian is appointed by the Superior Court of New Jersey to serve as conser vator or guardian for individuals who are at least 60 years of age and are without family or friends that can Congratulations to UNWLA New Jersey Regional Council on the 35th Anniversary! Typical responsibilities include entitlement applications and enrollment, coordination of services in the community, decisions regarding place ment and medical treatment, identification, collection and management of all income and assets (including the filing of tax returns) and preparation of burial arran gements. The Public Guardian directs the office, which is organized into three major divisions: Social Services, Legal Services, and Finance/Accounting. The Public Guardian maintains a working relationship with all ref erral sources, including hospitals, family and friends of clients, and Adult Protective Services; and, a mandatory reporting relationship with the Superior Court of New Jersey.
