CONTEST DA ТЕ EXTENDED! THE UKRAINIAN NATIONAL WOMEN’S LEAGUE OF AMERICA ANNOUNCES A LITERARY CONTEST For children and youth in recognition of “1994 INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE FAMILY” proclaimed by the United Nations. Theme of the contest: “What does the word ‘Family’ mean to me”? The concept of the word “Family” in today’s society has different meanings for different children. The selection of the topic for the drawings and essays is very arbitrary to encompass the many different perceptions and ideas of the “Family”. Contest participants may write about their family oi about another family. They should work independently. Their efforts should reflect a personal understanding of the word “Family”. Contest deadline: December 31,1994. Award winning works will be published in a separate book. The contest is divided into 3 categories: Category 1: For children 7—9 years old: A drawing of a family theme (holidays, trips, etc.) together with a short description of 30— 50 words. Category 2: For children 10—12 years old: A story that describes or answers the question “What does the word ‘Family’ mean to me”?: 150—200 words. Category 3: For youths 13—18 years old: A story/essay that describes or answers the question “What does the word ‘Family’ mean to me”?: 500 words. Submitted entries are to be signed using a pseudonym and age of the author. On a separ ate piece of paper, write your real name, address and age. Place and seal it in a separate envelope. One the outside of the envelope write your pseudonym and age. Send together with your entry. This way the judges will not know your real name until an award winning entry is chosen.
