C hristm as P a rty of U N W LA B ran ch 72 in N ew Y ork City. Christmas Party B ranch 72 in New Y ork C ity “Soyuz U krainok” B ranch 72 of New Y ork C ity held its firs t C hristm as p a rty a t th e U krain ian In stitu te on S aturday, De cem ber 15, w ith a group of 80 attending. The p a rty was a hap py occasion in w hich th e m em bers, th e ir husbands and chil dren took p art, w ith th e singing of U krainian koliady and other C hristm as carols and p e rfo r m ances by th e children. The P resid en t of B r. 72, M rs. M ary D ushnyck, welcomed th e guests and expressed th e hope th a t th e C hristm as P a rty would become an annual event of th e group, w ith m ore U krainian fe a tu res, and would serve to perpe tu a te U krainian C hristm as tr a ditions. M rs. D ushnyck p re se n t ed M rs. M yroslava K arp, C ultu ra l C hairm an, who introduced th e young people tak in g p a rt in th e program . These included: Jo han n a K law snik, B arbara, Billy and Joyce Chupa, T heresa, Ai- even stronger, it shall p re vail. T his is w arran ted by th e y o u th of to d ay ’s U kraine w hich displays a rem arkable national p ride and a darin g courage in its defense of U krainian language and culture. M arth a T arnaw sky mee and E lizabeth K udlak, M ark D ushnyck, and M errill Liteplo. M erril, who accom panied him self on th e piano, captivated young and all w ith his splendid singing and in terp re tatio n of “Tw as th e N ig h t B efore C h ristm a s/’ Cle m ent M oore’s poem set to m usic by Ken D arby. Passers-by on New Y ork’s F ifth A venue a t 79th S treet paused as th ey heard resounding notes from th e U krainian In stitu te as th e en tire group, led by M rs. K arp, joined in th e sing ing of C hristm as carols, w ith M errill Liteplo a t th e piano. The h ig h lig h t of th e evening fo r th e sm all fry , ra n g i ng from tw o years and up, w as th e a p pearance of S anta Claus who dis trib u ted g ifts to all th e children present. Mr. Bill Redosh w as re sponsible fo r bringing S anta to th e p a rty ! A fte r refresh m en ts had been served and baskets of candy giv en to th e children, th e young ste rs g ath ered around M erril L i teplo a t th e piano fo r an o th er round of carols and songs. A fittin g clim ax to th is joyous evening w as th e gentle snow fall w hich greeted th e guests as th ey w ent out of th e U krainian In sti tu te into th e silent night. M rs.
