A REPORT FROM UNWLA BRANCH 98 WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING by Anna Krawczuk UNWLA Honorary President Dedication page, designed by Anna Poruchynsky, inserted in Ukraine, A History, which was donated by Branch 98 to Monmouth County Library. UNWLA Branch 98 is headquartered in Monmouth County in Central New Jersey; it is the southernmost branch of the UNWLA's New Jersey Regional Council. Founded in 1988, the year in which Ukrainians celebrated the Millennium of Ukrainian Christianity, UNWLA Branch 98 appropriately chose Saint Olga as its patron. At our annual meeting held on March 5, 2000, the following officers were elected: President - M. Orysia Jacus, Vice President - Mary Bonanno, Treasurer - Anna Krawczuk, Secretary - Victoria Mischenko, Membership Committee Chair - Anna Poruchynsky, Social Welfare Committee Chair - Christine Roland, Scholarship Committe Chair - Vic toria Mischenko, Cultural/Museum Committee Chair - Ann Pederson. Since 1988, branch members have been active in sharing information about their cultural heritage with non-Ukrainians. Local activities have included Ukrainian folk art and crafts exhibits in libraries in Holmdel, Middletown, Manalapan and Shrewsbury. Branch members have also made every effort to pro mote historical accuracy and disseminate factual in formation about Ukraine. Recently, in conjunction with our commemoration of the UNWLA's 75th Anni versary, branch members donated copies of the UNWLA Convention Books, Our Life, and Orest Sub- telny's Ukraine, A History to Monmouth County Li brary's reference department. A copy of Irene Zabytko's The Sky Unwashed was donated to Holmdel Library. Joyce Smothers, chief librarian of Monmouth County Library, showed great interest in the issues of Our Life, indicating that such periodicals, including back issues, are especially desirable acquisitions for the library's reference department. "Good Foot Health", a lecture by Branch 98 member and past president Margaret Zakanycz Pu- tykewycz, D.P.M., was the last scheduled event before the summer break. Dr. Putykewycz, a lifelong resident of Middletown, New Jersey, is board certified in po- diatric medicine and is on staff at Jersey Shore Medical Center. Branch members and their guests thoroughly enjoyed her professionally presented in formation about the problems, ailments and care of feet. The importance of proper footwear for all people, especially children, was emphasized. An eye-opener for those attending was Dr. Putykewycz's discourse on different foot problems that are prevalent in different cultures. UNWLA Branch 98 welcomes its newest member, Ulana Joslin of Locust, New Jersey. If you live in our vicinity and would like to join our diversi fied group, please call M. Orysia Jacus at 732-264- 8820 or write to UNWLA Branch 98, PO.
