Chair, UNWLA Ecology Committee "Lord, the creator of the heavens, who is God, the designer and maker of the earth, who established it, not creating it to be a waste, but designing it to be lived in ..." Isaiah 45:18. These words should be the guiding principle of our thoughts and actions with regard to our surroundings — both natural and man made. As members of the UNWLA, we will attempt to implement this principle within the realm of our organization through the following approaches and actions: 1. The issues of environmental interest/awareness shall extend to, but not be limited to, the following: Air Recycling Food Waste Disposal Soil Genetic Manipulation Water Irradiation 3. Environmental awareness and responsibility of every UNWLA member should be three-fold: Personal and family Local, state and national Global 4. Be an active participant in your residential area in sorting and recycling of all trash categories. If there is no such program in your community, get one started. Practice energy efficiency by proper insulation, energy efficient transportation, practical clothing. Do not subscribe to conspicuous consumption - avoid extravagances. Local, state and national: Become familiar with governing bodies responsible for environmental policy at all levels. Obtain literature from local or state government about environment related activities and requirements of your community. Disseminate children's literature on the topic within your community. Get involved in local tree planting, wildlife preservation, park creation, etc. Write to your elected representatives about your concerns. Share your experiences with others at UNWLA meetings. Global: Read literature and watch programs about global warming, El Nino, La Nina, hurricanes, tornadoes and their effect on the country and its economy. If possible, collect information about environ mental programs in Ukraine, about Chornobyl, about efforts to clean up the Black Sea and major rivers. Disseminate this information. The Internet is an inexhaustible source of information on these topics. UNWLA: Save at least a 10 minute spot at each meeting for discussion of a topic of environmental concern.
