Guests and members o f UNWLA Branch 22 o f Chicago at 5(fh anniversary celebration. scheduled to take place at NCW headquarters on March 2, 2000. • On December 11, 1999, Branch 101 in Chicago, Illinois held a 50th anniversary celebration for Branch 22. It was the first time in the history of the UNWLA that an event was hosted by younger members of the organization to honor older members. Branch 22 received a citation; many of its members were honored for being in the UNWLA for fifty years. • That same day, Branch 64 in New York City celebrated its 45th anniversary. Mary Tomorug, the UNWLA's First Vice President, attended the event, read greetings from President Kurowyckyj, and presented a citation to the Branch. Irena Chaban, editor-in-chief of Our Life , was also present to commend the Branch on its achievements. Mrs. Chaban later participated in a seminar hosted by the Shevchenko Scientific Society on the current situation of the Ukraine language. Vasyl Nimchuk, Director of the Ukrainian Language Institute, was the keynote speaker. • Also on December 11, the Ukrainian Museum held its Board Meeting. The main topic discussed during the meeting was a plan of action for the new museum building. • On December 17, 1999, the New York Regional Council held its traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the Ukrainian Museum. President Iryna Kurowyckyj greeted the guests and thanked generous donors for their support. A special note of thanks was due Dr. Bohdan Kekish, President of the Self Reliance Credit Union, who presented Regional President Oleksandra Kirshak with a check for $5,000.00 which was then passed to Social Welfare Chair Nadia Shmigel. The UNWLA is extremely grateful to Dr. Kekish and to the Board of Directors of New York's SRFCU for their generosity. • On December 29, 1999, Ukraine's Consul General Yuriy Bohayevsky invited community leaders to his farewell party.
