The XXIII Convention of the UNWLA — the delegates, friends, honored guests, and the events — as seen through the eye of the camera. The panels were as follows: The Membership panel was organized by Olha Hna- teyko, Membership Chair. Her guest speakers included Daria Horodysky, Branch 12, Marianne Zayac, Branch 95, and Roksolana Luciw, Branch 88. Various aspects of membership were discussed, such as membership re cruitment, young women in the UNWLA, and the impact UNWLA members can have on their community. The Social Welfare panel was presented by the Social Welfare Chair Lidia Czernyk. The two guest speakers were Dr. Chrystyna Slywotzky and Dr. Ihor Savchuk. The topic of discussion was UNWLA’s pro gram of aid to Ukraine’s victims of Chornobil, specifi cally the installation of an MRI machine in the Lviv hos pital for children. The problems of the elderly in the United States were also discussed in an essay written by Marta Babak. The Education panel, organized by Chair Olga Try- tyak, featured guest speakers, teachers Oksana Kujbida- Stanko, Dr. Oka Hrycak and Irene Demkiw. They addressed the various aspects of early education and where children of Ukrainian descent can learn about their heritage. Irene Demkiw described a program im plemented in her school called “Kids to Kids Inter national.” The Public Relations panel This panel was organ ized by Lidia Bilous, Member-at-large on the National Board. Dr. Martha Bohachevsky-Chomiak, the Public Relations Chair addressed the delegates in writing from Ukraine, where she teaches at the Kyiv University. She pointed out the necessity for UNWLA to participate in American and international organizations and for mem bers to become active in the political life of their communities. The Culture panel, organized by Culture Chair Lidia Hladky, presented Dr. Laryssa Onyshkevych, Dr. Anna Procyk and Prof. Anatolij Pohribny. The panel discussed various problematic questions concerning the cultural aspect of the Ukrainian identity in the world today. An essay by Dr. Myroslava Znayenko who was not present, was also read. The Financial panel was presented by UNWLA’s financial secretary, Marta Danyluk. Her two guest speakers were Barbara Bachynsky and UNWLA’s treasu rer Roma Shuhan. The topics discussed were: the ne cessity of having a solid financial base for the organiza tion, strong fundraising efforts to augment this base, the importance of organizational funds and how to help them grow. ’’НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ВЕРЕСЕНЬ 1993 15
