CHAPTER 58: OLENA TELEHA, U.N.W.L.A., DETROIT, MICHIGAN ACTIVITIES: 1978 MARCH 16: Easter bread dem on stration was held at the home of Irene Ryzyi. Irene’s m othe r baked paska step by step, and gave an artistic dem on stration. APRIL 13: Participated in Channel 56 (WTVS-TV) A u ctio n . We manned tele phones as T.V. viewers made the ir bids on items auctioned to raise money for this educational channel. Members wore Ukrainian blouses and received many close camera shots. APRIL 23: In 1947 at C hapter 23’s 15th anniversary banquet Branch 58 re ceived the ir charter. Many o f the mem bers of Branch 58 are the daughters of the members o f Branch 23. So we chose ou r 30th anniversary and the ir 45th an ni versary to honor them at a M other and Daughter Banquet. O ur members pre pared the food and a very entertaining program. C hairm an, Olga Chestuch Hiebchik, intro du ced her mother, Mary Chestuch. President o f C hapter 23, to the guest clergy,m em bers, daughters, gra nd daughters, and guests. Chapter 58 do nated all proceeds to Chapter 23. MAY: Two o f o u r members attended the Annual UNWLA N ational Convention in New York City. JULY 20: A nn ua l Card Party Lun cheon and Raffle to raise money fo r the Senior Citizens H ousing Developments. Table prizes were hand - made silk poppies arranged w ith wheat in vases. JULY: W orkshops to make items to sell at our artifacts booth at the Detroit U krainian Ethnic Festival. AUGUST 6: O u r members grilled hamburgers and h o t dogs at the annual D etroit Regional C o u n cil Picnic, Drayton Plains, Pontiac. AUGUST 25, 26, 27: Participated in the D etroit U krainian Ethnic Festival for the 6th consecutive year. WOMEN’S LEAGUE BRANCH 60 PARTICIPATION FOR THE YEAR OCTOBER 1977 TO SEPTEMBER 1978 December 1977 Food baskets were made up and delivered to needy fam ilies by members of the club. Anne Neumann UNWLA BR. 111 The firs t activity of new ly-founded UNWLA Branch 111 was a m eeting on Sept. 23, 1977 to w hich we invited Mrs. Natalie Danylenko, president o f the Philadelphia Regional C ouncil. In her talk Mrs. Danylenko inform ed us about the philosophy and activities of UNWLA in the past and present. On Saturday, Nov. 5, 1977 our Branch organized a bus trip to the U krai nian Museum in New York City, an en joyable and most w o rth w h ile venture. O ur Branch also conducted a cake sale in one of the nearby Malls on Dec. 3, 1977 In the future, we hope to sponsor bus trips to the Garden State A rt Center in Holm del. NJ fo r the Ukrainian Festival on June 3, 1978, the Ukrainian Festival in Robin Hood Dell in Philadelphia in Aug. 1978, and another bus trip to o u r U krai nian Museum in New York City. On the financial side, at o u r first meeting we collected the total sum of $60.00 in dues. We expended $8.68 in postage and donated the sum o f $10.00 to the housewarm ing at St. M ichael’s Ukrainian C hurch in December. W ith the pro fit from our above-m entioned bake sale ($105) and bus trip ($10), we curre ntly have $149 in o u r treasury. Some tim e in 1978, most likely at Christmas, we hope to be able to make a donation to a c h ilre n ’s orphanage or sim ilar institution. In terms of num ber of members, we started last September w ith seven mem bers and anticipated ten new members. We hope to con tinu e to grow and strive to uphold o u r Ukrainian heritage and culture. O ur new Branch 111 is happy to work with o u r Ukrainian people and we are con fide nt in ou r success in the future.
