Natalie Pawlenko Every Child Deserves a Childhood As summer drew to a close and our members began another year of service, I found myself thinking about children. Childhood should be a time of laughter, learning, friendships, and dreams. It should be filled with family, school, and the simple joys that help young people grow with confidence and hope. Sadly, for far too many children in Ukraine, war has replaced those moments with fear, loss, and uncertainty. A whole generation has been born under the sound of sirens. For more than 100 years, the UNWLA has stood beside women and children during some of history’s most difficult times. Today is no different. This fall, we launched a new campaign to help Ukrainian children heal: Hope for Ukraine’s Children . Our efforts will support rehabilitation for children whose lives have been forever changed by war and, where possible, will help restore hope to children who have been separated from their families through russia’s illegal deportation and forced transfer of Ukrainian children. Healing takes many forms. It can be medical care, counseling, rehabilitation, or simply the chance to feel safe again. Every child deserves that opportunity. The winter and summer camps that UNWLA members sponsor for hundreds of children each year are part of bringing back the joy of being a child. Our youngest supporters remind us of this truth through the UNWLA’s Children Praying for Children program. Across North America, children gather to pray for the children of Ukraine. Their simple acts of kindness remind us that compassion has no age and that even the smallest hearts can inspire great hope. We encourage our members to continue to reach out to all faith communities to join us in this profound act of support. With each year, more communities keep the issue of Ukraine’s children high in public awareness. As Soyuzianky, we cannot erase the suffering of war. But together we can help restore childhood where it has been stolen, offer healing where there is trauma, and remind every Ukrainian child that they have not been forgotten. Thank you for continuing to make that hope possible. Every prayer, every volunteer hour, every donation, and every act of kindness helps write a brighter future for Ukraine’s children.
