22 OUR LIFE • September-October 2026 ДІЯЛЬНІСТЬ ВІДДІЛІВ І ЧЛЕНКИНЬ • BRANCH & MEMBER NEWS Branch 124 Members Take Part in SPIFFS Cultural Fair The St. Petersburg International Folk Fair Society (SPIFFS) was established in 1975 to preserve and celebrate cultural traditions from around the world. Through festivals and educational programs, SPIFFS gives residents and students an opportunity to learn about the customs, history, food, music, and art of many countries. Ukraine was one of the founding countries of SPIFFS and has been proudly represented at its events for more than 50 years. The Ukrainian American Association (UAA), UNWLA Branch 124, local churches, youth organizations, and communi - ty volunteers have all helped make that participa - tion possible. The 2026 SPIFFS Cultural Fair was held March 5-7 at England Brothers Park in Pinellas Park, Florida. Thousands of Pinellas County students and mem - bers of the Tampa Bay community attended. Coun - try flags, music, colorful displays, and wonderful aromas filled the park, creating a warm and lively celebration of international friendship. Planning and Leadership Ukraine's participation and presentation were the result of many months of cooperation and prepa - ration. Irene Thompson, a longtime member of Branch 124, and Slavko Chomanczuk, both leaders in the UAA, worked closely with SPIFFS organizers and the Ukrainian community. They helped make important decisions, coordinated plans, recruited volunteers, and worked on other important aspects of the three-day fair. Their leadership brought together a dedicated team of volunteers. Everyone contributed in a dif - ferent way, but all shared the same goal: to wel - come visitors and help them learn more about Ukraine's culture, history, and traditions. Ukrainian Food The Ukrainian food booth was one of the most pop - ular stops at the fair. The aroma of traditional dish - es quickly attracted visitors, and a long line formed outside the tent. The women of Epiphany of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church prepared the varenyky. Solomiia Olya Czerkas , English Press Secretary, Branch 124, St. Petersburg, Florida Branch 124 members join in the festivities. Branch 124 members organize and showcase Ukraine at the fair. Chess players surround the Ukrainian booth.
