16 OUR LIFE • September-October 2026 ДІЯЛЬНІСТЬ ВІДДІЛІВ І ЧЛЕНКИНЬ • BRANCH & MEMBER NEWS Branch 136 Sponsors Inaugural Naples Ukrainian Film Festival Branch 136 in Naples, Florida, in conjunction with Coronation of the Word and Naples Cine - matheque, sponsored a very successful inaugural Ukrainian Film Festival March 6-8 at the Paragon Theater. Chartered on March 12, 2014, our branch has been commit - ted to sharing our Ukrainian culture, our traditions, and our true history with the communi- ties of Southwest Florida. Since russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, we have focused our efforts on raising funds for humani - tarian aid and medical supplies for military and civilian needs. Recently, we concentrated on raising awareness of Ukraine's democratic identity in addition to supporting decolonization efforts through educational and cultural engagement. The war against Ukraine has only intensified russia's cultural and histor - ical suppression. In response, we organized this Ukrainian Film Festival at the Paragon Theater to celebrate and preserve Ukraine's creative herit - age and national identity. The Coronation of the Word (Koronatsiya Slova) was founded in 1999 by Tetyana and George Logush to promote Ukrainian literature at a time of critical decline in the 1990s due to severe economic conditions. The married couple opened a literature competition for original, unpub - lished/not produced novels, film scripts, theatrical plays, lyric poetry, and works for and by teens and children. We are especially grateful to Tetyana who worked tirelessly in communicating with Ukraine to obtain the films and the rights to screen them in Naples. Naples Cinematheque, founded by David Garonzik, has embarked on a mission to deliver the very best of cinema's history to the big screen and to ensure that contemporary voices from around the world receive the spotlight they deserve. The festival is a profound moment in preserving cinema for the cultural landscape of Southwest Florida and for the world. It spotlights filmmakers' extraordinary work under exceptional duress, Luba Maryn Howard , Branch 136, Naples, Florida Branch 136 members (l-r) Orysia Fisher, Nataliya Kaspshyshak, Tetyana Logush, Larysa Temple.
