Attendees were invited to continue supporting Ukrainian cultural and educational initiatives. Candles and sunflow - ers were placed on the granite bench monu - ment installed in the park by Branch 38 mem - bers right after the disaster in 1986. Guests were welcomed to share traditional korovai bread, reinforcing the spirit of fellowship that had characterized the gathering. The commemoration concluded with a pow - erful expression of unity. Kateryna Pushkina led the audience in the Ukrainian national an - them. Voices joined together throughout the pavilion, transforming remembrance into soli - darity. As the final notes faded, participants de - parted carrying with them not only memories of a disaster 40 years past, but also a renewed commitment to preserving history, supporting Ukraine, and honoring those whose lives were forever changed by Chornobyl. The event served as a reminder that, while four decades have passed since the disaster, its lessons — and the resilience of those af - fected — continue to resonate across genera - tions and around the world. UNWLA Branch 38 is deeply grateful to all participants and to the branch members who organized this event: branch President Helena Schultz, Oksana Dovgan, Olha Paris, Chrystia Losianovych, Angelina Geerts, and Lolita Clouser, with special thanks to Zoriana Morozewych and Odarka Figlus.
