The convention was very productive. All of the workshops were well attended, and the interaction between participants, presenters, and panelists was dynamic and interesting. At each seminar, provocative questions were asked and answered; participants offered many good suggestions and comments. The newly elected National Board has many important things to deal with this term. The renovation of the two floors of our building will be a long and expensive process. Among other things, we will need the services of members who are professional librarians to catalog, store, and appropriately display the UNWLA's collection of books. In this issue of Our Life , we have published the amendments to UNWLA bylaws, which were adopted at the convention, along with convention resolutions and proposals. On the advice of our parliamentarian, Dr. Oksana Xenos, we will not be publishing a new bylaws booklet at this time. Dr. Xenos pointed out at the con vention that our bylaws are much too long and that many of the items listed in the bylaws at present should, instead, be listed in rules of procedures. The changes she proposed will require some long-term consideration and preparation. One of the tasks of the National Board is to review UNWLA programs. Some of these programs have been in existence since the founding of our organization and may need updating. Others were initiated in re sponse to specific timely needs and must be terminated or modified to accommodate current circumstances. During the convention, we launched the celebration of our organization's 80th anniversary. This anni versary year presents us with the opportunity to consider, initiate, and implement new projects and programs to replace programs such as the “milk and roll" program, which is soon coming to an end. We anticipate that UNWLA Regional Councils and Branches will plan special events celebrating the 80th anniversary of our organization. Often, such events are a wonderful way to introduce other women to the UNWLA and invite them to join. It is with great joy that I inform you that the next General Assembly Meeting of the International Council of Women will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine, in September of 2006.1 must admit that I am pleased and proud that I made the proposal to the ICW, which led to this decision. Women who wish to be part of an official USA delegation to this event must be members of the National Council of Women /USA. You may apply for membership status in the ICW (a payment of dues for a two-year membership must accompany application). Please be aware that only 20 delegates per council may attend the General Assembly as space is limited. If you are interested, please get in touch with the UNWLA office.
