Monthly, published by Ukrainian National Women’s League o f America Vol. LVI SEPTEMBER 1999 Editor: TAMARA STADNYCHENKO UKRAINIAN NATIONAL WOMEN’S LEAGUE OF AMERICA PARTICIPATES IN JOINT CONFERENCE OF UKRAINIAN AMERICAN ORGANIZATIONS by TAMARA STADNYCHENKO From June 23 to June 27, 1999, members of Ukrainian American organizations representing a wide spectrum of professional, fraternal, charitable and po litical interests gathered at the Crystal City Hyatt Re gency in Virginia to share ideas, to explore issues of mutual interest, to discuss present and future agendas and to socialize. The event drew a capacity crowd of Ukrainain Americans from all parts of the US. Though there was a sizable contingent of non-Ukrainians who have worked with Ukrainian organizations or who have economic, political, or scientific ties with Ukraine, the event was quintessentially Ukrainian with a focus on Ukraine and Ukrainians, both in the homeland and in the diaspora. The Ukrainian National Women's League of America hosted its program at the Joint Conference of Ukrainian American Organizations on Friday, June 25, 1999, beginning with a meeting of the Executive Com mittee during which newly elected UNWLA President Iryna Kurowyckyj outlined her vision of future UNWLA goals and programs as the organization ap proaches the 75th anniversary of its founding.
