guage (any language) the parents should also adhere to this. Never mix languages. Never, when among other Ukrainians are parents to use a different language among themselves or to the children. Q: And to others? A: It depends on how fluent or knowledgeable one is about a language. The young learn quickly. With some they speak only Ukrainian, with others they mix lan guages, still with others they won’t use Ukrainian at all. Perhaps this is not very logical, but it happens all the time. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and views, your experience and advice. We will continue our dis cussion with an interview with your children. It will be interesting to hear their opinions and thoughts on how it is to grow up in the free world, having a Ukrainian spirit. Anna Krawczuk UNWLA INC Scholarship Program chairwoman Taissa Turiansky UNWLA INC Scholarship Program treasurer Maria Barahura, a long-time member of the editorial staff of OUR LIFE died on July 21, 1987. Her death brought great sorrow to her husband, her daughters and their families, her grandchildren, her ex tended family and to her friends. For many years Mrs. Barahura has provided indis- pensible support for our magazine, writing articles, doing research, proofreading, etc. Through her expertise in Ukrainian literature and language — she had a Masters degree in this field — the magazine was assured of excellence and high standards in text and content in every issue. A long time member of UNWLA, Mrs. Barahura was acquainted with the work, purpose and goals of the organization and her expert advise to the press chairmen of the branches was always well re ceived, welcome and will remain as guideline to good, informative writing for a long time. There are many contributions to the Ukrainian community which are attributed to Maria Barahura — articles to various Ukrainian publications, participation in Ukrainian organizations, suport of Ukrainian causes. My tribute to Mrs. Barahura is on a personal level. I admired and respected the calming effect her personal ity had on me. Her smile was always gentle and welcom ing and her greeting assured me that she was glad to see me. She had a wonderful sense of humour and could never deny any request for help.
