Конференція Екзекут иви М іж н ар о д - ньої Ж іночої Ради в Осльо — червень 1978 В Другому ряді друга справа голова СУА Іванна Р ож анковська On June 5th through June 9 of this year,the Inter national Council of Women held a meeting in Oslo, Nor way to celebrate its 90th anniversary I participated in the meeting as a member of the National Council of Women of the USA. As a vice-president of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations I extended greetings from that organization to those assembled. On June 7th I had the opportunity to read the state ment from the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America — the primary reason, in fact, that I attended the meeting. Introducing myself, I explained that I repre sent 150,000 Ukrainian women in the free world. Nine teen women’s organizations of Europe, Australia, North and South America are united in the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s organizations. I further stated that, on a small scale, we are developing projects similar to those initiated and supported by the International Coun cil of Women. In our communities, we have already started projects connected with the International Year of the Child. After this general introduction I noted that I had a special reason for attending the Executive meeting of the International Council of Women and my written state ment would explain it fully: June 5, 1978 Madam Ng. Prem Purachatra; It is with great pleasure and honor that the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America extends its sheerest best wishes to the Inter national Council of Women on the occasion of its 90th Anniversary Celebration. It is indeed an honor to salute an organization which over the last 90 years has worked to advance the cause of equality and opportunity for all people, regardless of race, religion or national origin. A truly international affiliation of women from many countries, the International Council of Women has devoted its energies to the very highest ideals and huma nitarian goals. During the period of Ukraine’s short-lived independence, Ukrainian women founded the Ukrainian National Council of Women and were accepted as members of the International Council of Women at the 1920 convention in Oslo, where we are now celebrating the organization’s 90th birthday. During World War I and the post-war period, Ukrainian women attempted to build a new life amidst the ruins of a country devastated by war and the ravages of epidemics, famine, and sepa-
