AN INTERV IEW W ITH PRESID EN T OF MMM A reporter of OUR LI'FE re quested and was granted an in terview w ith the P resident of M MM W orld M ovem ent of M o thers, M adam Jeanne M ancaux. In this interesting interview it was learned th at M adam M an caux took over the leadership of M M M in ,1953. B efore th a t s'he took active p art in W om en’s So cial and Civic Union Which actual ly founded present M M M . B eing a m other of five children she know s th e joys and the prob lems of m otherhood. A t present she is A ssistant to the M ayor in Ohatillon and is in charge of all social w ork in this tow n. H ere she has the opportunity to come in contact w ith women of all social levels and is therefore fully aw are of difficulties and hardships of women and m others. She is al w ays understanding and helpful in solving their problem s. As President of M M M she o ft en represents this organization at different international conven tions. In 1948, w hen U N B C IF had a Convention in Geneva, M a dam M ancaux w as dhieifly re sponsible for passing a resolution to help children of all nations and not only those in the countries which are m em bers of ON. She also is often sent to represent W om en’s Social and Civic Union at different m eetings. This year MM M celebrates its 10th anniversary and M adam M ancaux is 'busy preparing m at erial for the Study Days which will begin on June 7th. 1958, in Paris. Those Study Days will show the result of w ork and re search of this im portant organiza tion during its ten years of exist ence. M EETING W ITH MRS. ELEANOR ROOSEVELT On the 18th of M arch this year a m eeting took place betw een M rs. E leanor Roosevelt and rep resentatives of UN W LA . ч The purpose of this m eeting w ^ ls the discussion of certain phases of life in U SSR about w hich U N W LA collect fed m aterials and' fstcts. The 'm eeting w as held at the residence of M rs. Roosevelt in New Y ork. The head of our delegation w as M rs. Stefania Pushkar, V ice President of U N W LA. W ith her w ere M rs. T ati ana H orashchenko, D r. N atalia Pazuniak cind' Hfelen Prociuk. P re sent w ere also D r. R. Osinchuk and. Prof. 5. K rashepinikow whq w ere invited as specialists fo r this particular discussion. M rs. E lea nor Roosevelt gave a very in ter esting account of her im pressions during her trip to U SSR and com pared them w ith the experiences of those present. The representa tives of UINWLA brought w ith them inform ative m aterials which dealt w ith life under Soviets in general and w om en’s fate in p ar ticular, social w ork, education, “kolkhozes” (collective farm s), and national and religious oppres sion. M rs. Roosevelt w as very in terested and accepted the present ed m aterial. The conversation which passed in friendly atm osphere,lasted one and a half hour during which tim e the hostess served her guests tea. In connection w ith this m eet ing U N W LA sent M rs. Roosevelt a f ew U krainian E aster eggs w ith best wishes for a happy holiday. MRS. LOTOTSKY’S TR IP TO EUROPE M rs. L ototsky in h er capacity as a Vice-'President of U krainian A m erican R elief Com m ittee left at the end of M arch for Europe, w here she is expected to stay for a few m onths. T here she is going to perform certain duties in con nection w ith relief w/ork. She will also pay a visit to the H eadquar ters of U krainian W om en’s O r ganization in G erm any and will inspect schools and kindergartens which are supported by the B ran ches of UINWLA. These in stitu tions help the children to preserve the know ledge of U krainian lan guage, literatu re and history. A f te r her retu rn M rs. L ototsky will give a full account of the help giv en by the M other and Child Com m ittee and w hat has been done thanks, to th e financial help of w om en in U N W LA and continued w ork of U krainian W om en’s O r ganization in G erm any.
