НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Травень 2026 25 ДІЯЛЬНІСТЬ ВІДДІЛІВ І ЧЛЕНКИНЬ • BRANCH & MEMBER NEWS Branch 113 Holds Notes of Hope Benefit Concert Oksana Krushelnycka , Press Chair, Branch 113, New York City On an exceptionally frigid winter after - noon on February 1, 2026, our intrepid UNWLA Branch 113 came together at the lovely premises of New York’s Ko- sciuszko Foundation to hold its annual fundraising event. We called it Notes of Hope because it was specifically dedi - cated to supporting maternity care in war-torn Ukraine. Since russia’s attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Ukraine’s populace has been living in constant threat from circulating drones, shelling, and barrag- es from ballistic missiles. Russia’s end- less and indiscriminate attacks on civil - ian centers, residential buildings, and hospitals, including maternity wards, have made life unbearable. Since the beginning of the war, over 2,500 docu - mented strikes have targeted hospitals and maternity centers, causing death, destruction, and loss of critical medical equipment. It has become extremely challenging for Ukrainian mothers and dedicated medical professionals to bring babies into this world. We wanted to help. Our Culture Com- mittee co-chair, Roksolana Karmazyn, be - came aware of articles about attacks on Ukraine’s maternity wards. Branch 113 decided to organize a benefit concert to raise funds to alleviate the dire condi- tions in these centers. Designer/PR So- phia Bilynsky created the Notes of Hope title to express our mission of supporting Ukraine through music and culture. Al- though it is difficult to obtain a precise number, reports indicate that over 130 Ukrainian cultural figures, including com- posers, performers, and music managers, have been killed by russian forces since the 2022 full-scale invasion, while some estimates put the number closer to 200 artists, though this includes broader ar - tistic fields.
