24 OUR LIFE • March-April 2026 ДІЯЛЬНІСТЬ ВІДДІЛІВ І ЧЛЕНКИНЬ • BRANCH & MEMBER NEWS UNWLA Members-at-Large Take Part in Holodomor Events in Their Communities Oksana Stanko , Press Officer, UNWLA Members-at-Large Lisa McDonald: Casper, Wyoming Lisa McDonald, a UNWLA Member-at-Large, was in - vited by the Casper, Wyoming, Unitarian Universal - ist community to give a presentation on the Holodo - mor at their service on Sunday, November 23, 2025. Lisa has given Holodomor presentations at the local college and for other community organizations over the past three years. In 2023, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon signed a proclamation recognizing the Holodomor as genocide. This year the service included prayers for peace, Lisa’s presentation, a question-and-answer period, and a shared meal of soup and bread. There were 25 non-Ukrainians in attendance. Lisa continues to educate the Wyoming community about Ukraine, our traditions, our his - tory, and our culture. Upcoming Wyoming events include spring pysanka classes, a Ukrainian Wed - ding Traditions class at Casper College on April 16, and an online korovai class through the Ukrainian History and Education Center in June. UNWLA Members-at-Large Lisa McDonald (Casper, Wyoming) and Dr. Olena Danylyuk (Detroit, Mich - igan) were instrumental in helping their communities commemorate the Holodomor this past fall. Dr. Olena Danylyuk: Detroit, Michigan On December 7, 2025, the Michigan Ukrainian community gathered to commemorate the 92nd anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932–1933, the genocide of the Ukrainian people carried out by the Soviet regime through a man-made famine. The event was led by UNWLA Member-at-Large Dr. Olena Danylyuk, Chair of the Michigan Holo - domor Genocide Committee and a member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society and the Ukrainian Music Institute of America (Detroit Chapter), to - gether with Dr. Solomia Soroka, President of the Shevchenko Scientific Society (Detroit Chapter) and Myroslava Stefanyuk.
