22 OUR LIFE • March-April 2026 Members-at-Large Hold Successful “Summer Camp for Ukrainian Children” Fundraiser ДІЯЛЬНІСТЬ ВІДДІЛІВ І ЧЛЕНКИНЬ • BRANCH & MEMBER NEWS Olya Czerkas , President, UNWLA Members-at-Large UNWLA Members-at-Large understand the impor - tance of giving Ukrainian children, many of whom are going through psychological and physical stress - es, the opportunity to attend a summer camp. By attending a summer camp, children have an oppor - tunity to enjoy peaceful times, create memorable learning experiences, and make new friends. To give children an opportunity to have these enjoy - able childhood experiences, our Members-at-Large (MAL) established a Summer Camp for Ukrainian Children fundraiser that ran successfully for two months. On October 2, 2025, during an informative, culturally filled, and enjoyable Members-at-Large Zoom meeting, we celebrated the fundraiser’s ac - complishments and thanked all for their generous support. The meeting began with a prayer and a moment of silence for those who have given their lives for freedom in Ukraine and the U.S. The moment of si - lence was followed by the UNWLA Hymn sung by Zenovia Zakovorotna as she accompanied herself on the bandura. We were honored to have UNWLA president Na - talie Pawlenko attend our meeting. She congratulat - ed the Members-at-Large for their dedication and fundraising accomplishment. Members-at-Large president Olya Czerkas welcomed all who joined the meeting. She extended a heartfelt thank-you to Member-at-Large Maria Holian for suggesting and taking the lead on this project. Olya sincerely thanked Elizabeth Buniak, UNWLA Social Welfare Chair, for her continuous support, and also ex - tended her thanks to Members-at-Large, UNWLA branches and Regional Councils, community mem - bers, and friends for their extraordinary outpour - ing of generosity and support of our Ukrainian chil - dren. The cultural part of the meeting began as several individuals shared their talents. Alisa Humeniuk, a teen-aged student from St. Petersburg, recited the moving poem Ridna Mova . On her piano, Maria Holian played Melody , a work by Ukrainian com - poser Myroslav Skoryk. This selection brought tears to many as we listened in awe. Marc Desouza, a young teen, sang Ridna Maty Moya and touched the hearts of all. Elizabeth Buniak displayed a slide show that presented information regarding the summer camp we supported.
