НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Січень-Лютий 2026 29 ДІЯЛЬНІСТЬ ВІДДІЛІВ І ЧЛЕНКИНЬ • BRANCH & MEMBER NEWS struction process. Even with insurance payouts, some $100,000 is still needed to complete essential repairs. Ukrainian Christmas in Venice Centennial Park in downtown Venice, FL, was transformed into a holiday wonderland on December 6 as visitors enjoyed the annual Ukrainian Christmas in Venice event hosted by North Port’s Ukrain - ian American community organizations and churches. Branch 56 played a major role in the event. Branch members set up a tented booth offering holiday ornaments and displaying tra - ditional Ukrainian arts, crafts, and instruments. Members of the branch’s advocacy committee had a separate display that educated visitors — nearly half of whom were not of Ukrainian descent — about the Ukrainian children kidnapped by russian forces during the current invasion, a number estimated by many human rights organizations to be as high as 43,000 children. Branch president Bohdana Puzyk served as MC for the enter - tainment portion of the event. Bohdana opened the program by providing guests with a description of Ukrainian holiday traditions, tracing their roots back more than 1,000 years and describing their rituals, foods, and customs. Oleh Mayovsky’s lively children’s choir, Svitanok, opened the en - tertainment segment of the festivities, followed by singer Viktoria Luhanska, who performed both alone and with her daughter, Dary - na, and then by a children’s choir from the Ukrainian Baptist Church, conducted by Natalka Kovalchuk. Violinist Nadiia Ionashku played traditional Ukrainian Christmas songs, Oksana Andrishko performed on keyboard, and singer Ihor Andrishko delighted the audience. The festivities ended with a solo performance by singer Ihor Hrytsyk, who also led all the entertainers and guests in a joyful group song. The event was covered by ABC television affiliate Channel 7, based in Tampa and Sarasota. Holiday-Themed Library Displays Branch 56 library committee chair Slava Stefanyshyn, assisted by Yara Litosch, created several holiday-themed displays featuring traditional Ukrainian arts and crafts, articles of clothing, literature, and holiday memorabilia at the Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Public Library in Ven - ice, FL. Throughout December, the displays generated renewed inter - est in Ukrainian arts and culture and refocused attention on Ukraine’s endurance as it enters the fifth year of russia’s war on the nation.
