НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Січень-Лютий 2026 27 ДІЯЛЬНІСТЬ ВІДДІЛІВ І ЧЛЕНКИНЬ • BRANCH & MEMBER NEWS tion on pysanky — their history, significance, tech - niques, and the legends behind the design mo - tifs — was then shared by pysanka artist Sofika Zielyk. Individual poetry readings by Lila Dlaboha and Olena Jennings of their current works segued into the viewing of several short films by documen - tary filmmaker Andrea Odezynska, with Andrea explaining the inspiration behind each film topic. Cultural wool artist Halyna Shepko rounded out the day by explaining traditional Ukrainian wool arts — raising sheep, shearing, dying, spinning, weaving, and regional designs and colors — and even demonstrating and allowing visitors to try their hand at spinning yarn. Branch 95 also played a pivotal behind-the- scenes role in planning, preparing, organizing, and providing hands-on women power for this event. Branch members were responsible for the beauti - ful cultural displays, silent auction items, UNWLA/ Branch 95 information table, and Ukrainian cuisine provided for the day. They also took on the various hostess roles required for the many activities. Throughout the day, our guests were invited to sample Ukrainian delicacies courtesy of branch vice president Maya Lew, while branch president Oksana Dashawetz and members of the branch and the local Ukrainian community supplied a vari - ety of ethnic-style pastries for our guests to enjoy. Two large antique display cases were filled with Ukrainian cultural items (some of them precious heirlooms) generously shared by Branch 95 mem - bers: embroidery, jewelry, Hutzul and Trypillian ceramics, Hutzul woodwork, and wool kilims. Detailed descriptions of the various items, their Photo: Marianna Crans Ulana Salewycz provided an overview of the event, and Oksana Dashawetz welcomed the guests. Ukrainian names, their history, their meaning, their cultural and regional designs and motifs were also posted so that our guests could better appreciate what we were sharing with them. A silent auction of goods donated by Branch 95 members featured items ranging from artwork and Ukrainian-inspired objects to assorted handmade gift baskets, gift cards, and more. In our ongoing ef - forts to raise awareness about these most difficult times in Ukraine, the proceeds of the silent auction were designated for a variety of UNWLA programs that provide humanitarian aid for Ukraine. Several of the artists also sold prints and crafts re - lated to their beautiful art. Ukrainian craft vendors Soloveiko, UAArtistry, and Ukrainian Marketplace were available for a very different kind of shopping experience: our guests could purchase and enjoy unique clothing, jewelry, crafts, and Ukrainian gifts. We were delighted by the wonderful turnout from the local community, and we received numer - ous compliments from both our visitors and our Lo - cust Grove hosts about the rich variety of arts we presented and the traditions we shared. Our pre - senters and participating artists were also warmly praised for their outstanding work and engaging contributions. We are proud of the UNWLA’s century of tireless service and unwavering dedication to our homeland and our cultural identity — an example that has in - spired every one of our branch members — and look forward to continuing our commitment to this noble organization in the years ahead, with the same zeal and conviction that it has demonstrated throughout its remarkable history. Многая літа, UNWLA!
