НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Січень-Лютий 2026 19 A Loss for Branch 107 Life is such that when we pass, our absence is felt most deeply by our families, friends, and col - leagues. Something is missing. A change occurs, a void is created, and we are missed. Today, in addition to family and friends, that absence is felt by UNWLA Branch 107, which has lost three members: Halene Marenin, Vera Zubrycky, and Tania Tatarko. Our branch, now 57 years strong, was found - ed in the late 1960s by seven women who immi - grated to the San Francisco Bay Area. They cre - ated not only a branch, but an enduring bond rooted in shared culture, purpose, and everlast - ing friendship. In the past 14 months, we lost three members, and their passing has left a pro - found sense of loss near and far. Hala, Tania, and Vera were not only members of Branch 107 — they were close friends. To - gether, they opened a Ukrainian school, formed a choir, and actively participated in church life. They were instrumental in supporting the UNWLA from its earliest days and in building and sustaining Branch 107. Beyond their dedication to preserving our culture and traditions, these women supported one another deeply. They worked, celebrated, sang, skied, traveled, vacationed, and shared life’s joys and challenges side by side. In good times and difficult ones, they stood together as friends and colleagues. Much is written about love — the love of par - ents, spouses, and children — but there is a unique and profound love born of friendship. These three women shared that bond for 57 years. It is our great sorrow that within such a short time, they all passed, leaving behind empty spaces, unanswered messages, and plans left unrealized. The loss is immeasurable and deeply painful. In recent years, as age and illness limited their activity, their support never wavered. They con - tinued to uplift new branch members with en - couragement and warmth, inspiring the younger Nora Mason , Branch 107, San Francisco, CA generation through their dedication to the Ukrainian cause. We could always count on Hala for a kind word or a heartfelt compliment, whether or not she was able to participate herself. They leave behind a void that cannot be filled. Fifty- seven years of friendship cannot be replaced. Their absence is deep, enduring, and profoundly felt. They leave behind siblings, children, grandchildren, and countless friends — and a lasting legacy of friend - ship, dedication, and love. Dear friends, you are deeply missed.
