30 WWW.UNWLA.ORG “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, СІЧЕНЬ 2012 Roksolana Misilo UNWLA Art/Museum Committee Chair Pani Roksolano, as the newly elected U N- WLA Art/Museum Committee Chair, what do you see as your most important short - term and long - term goals? I am thrilled to be elected the UNWLA Art/Museum chair. My goals are to increase membership and raise awareness for our Ukrainian Museum in NYC, which was founded by the UNWLA. First and foremost , this has to b e done among our own membership and then used as a tool to increase UNWLA membersh ip among the younger generation — our daughters and their peers. I am planning to adhere to th e resol u- tions passed by the XXIX UNWLA Convention, which include informing member s that the M u- seum store gratefully accepts donations of cu l- tural items, reach out to members to include donations to the Museum in their wills , and e n- courage branches to hold artistic exhibits with proceeds going to the Museum. As UNWLA Art/Museum chair, I have been appointed t o the Board of Trustees of TUM. I lead the PR Committee and Membe r- ship Committee. As such, I would love to see a traveling PR campaign visiting each regional council and branc h with a short presentation on t he Ukrainian Museum to ge nerate more e x- citement. An extra benefit would be having spouses, children , and friends join TUM. Could you tell the readers of Our Life a little bit about the i dea behind your recent project — Young Members at T he Ukrainian Museum (YM@UM) ? The idea of YM@UM started with my daughter telling me about belonging to another museum's young adults circle, and the fun events she was attending. Why not have these at TUM so that she and her peers could regularly come to TUM, enjoy the exhibits, social ize and meet new people at different theme events, and learn about Ukrainian arts and culture? And in turn these young members could volunteer at TUM and start YM@UM fund - raising initiatives to benefit TUM. Something similar was started at TUM years ago. Now it is time to revive this initiative again. We are thinking of three or four events a year geared specifically for this group, including special new exhibit viewing evenings and an "Evening in Paris," to start. Were you happy with how the first YM@U M event went? Our first YM@UM event on November 4th was a triumph! Over 50 young adults a t- tended. Approximately 40 became members of T UM. There were new faces, and I a m countin g on the positive word of mouth, to get a larger attendance for our next YM@ UM event. Havi ng guided tours of the exhibits during the evening prove d successful. Both event goals — to intr o- duce adults aged 21 - 40 to TUM and to increase TUM membership — were attained. Could you share with us some of your future plans and projects? I will be working to increase both ind i- vidual memberships and UNWLA branch memberships at TUM. It is very important for all members of the UNWLA to retain their vested interest in our TUM, since it was started by our organization. Membership numbers are ext remely important, especially when applying for grants. In addition, I want to encourage ind i- vidual members to take part in committees run by the Board of Trustees to continue propelling TUM forward, particularly in this difficult economy. On a personal note, having three daug h- ters, I would like to see project s such as the o r- ganization of a professional women's panel that will i nform our daughters as well as entice our next generation to join the UNWLA. They are our legacy and our future. Interview by Olesia Wallo Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році . A рхів C У A - Ню Йорк , Н . Й . C Ш A.
