28 “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, КВІТЕНЬ 2009 this disaster. O ur organization is now exploring the most effective way to pay tribute to UNWLA Honorary Member Mary Beck who so generously supported the UNWLA Chornobyl Fund in her will. The tragic legacy of Chornobyl persists as does the commitment of our Social Welfare program to combat the continuing aftereffects of the disaster. In April 1998, the first Ukrainian - language Easter Mass was celebrated in Athens, Greece, prompting the evolvement of Ukrainian diaspora life in Greece. While participating in the IX Congress of the World Congress of Ukrainians held in Kyiv in August 2008, I met a charming and very articulate young woman, Halyna Masliouk - Kakkou. Pani Halyna is the President of Ukrainian - Hellenic Thought, the association of the Ukrainian diaspora in Greece. At my invitation, Pani Halyna has written an extremely interesting article detailing the journey of this diaspora, which is included in this issue and for which I express my sincere thanks. Thanks to our parliamentarian, Oksana Xenos, the Combined Federal Cam paign pledges are rolling in. Dr. Xenos initiated this action and continues to submit required annual updated reports to ensure that the UNWLA remains eligible for donations both from federal government employees and military personnel. Information on the CFC campaign is available on our w ebsite. First Vice President, Ulana Zinych, is writing thank you e - mails or letters to CFC contributors across the country, expressing gratitude to them for their support of our organization. If you haven’t yet visited ou r redesigned and rejuvenated w ebsite, we invite you to do so at www.unwla.org . Zoriana Haftkowycz, UNWLA w ebsite committee chair, has written an article for this month’s issue, an in - depth description of the process and efforts of the committee as well as a summary of plans for the next phase of this ongoing project. By posting your programs and events, we hope to keep an updated nationwide UNWLA calendar of events. The Web site is an ideal vehicle for sharing our ideas. I close this month’s message with co ngratulations to Lid i a Kazewych , newly elected president of the Detroit Regional Council Christin Chom y n - Izak , reelected president of the Philadelphia Regional Council Lubomyra Kalin , reelected president of the Chicago Regional Council The Executive Boar d thanks these dedicated women for their continued efforts toward ensuring the continued and thriving future of our organization.
