“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, КВІТЕНЬ 2009 17 total of $8,375. The branch itself sponsored one student in Ukraine while 6 members individually funded 22 stipends that supported a number of students. Branch members also reached out to friends who, in turn, generously funded 19 st ipends. Through these collaborative efforts, Branch 98 succeeded in providing stipends to 42 students in Ukraine and 3 students in Brazil. We are grateful to everyone who contributed and look forward to continuing our efforts in support of this valuable pr ogram in 2009. The XXVIII UNWLA National Convention was held in Michigan in May 2008. Our branch was well - represented at this important triennial event. President Victoria Mischenko, Treasurer M. Orysia Jacus, and Luba Bilowchtchuk were branch delegates, w hile Maria Polanskyj and UNWLA Honorary President Anna Krawczuk attended in their capacity as members of the UNWLA National Board. Everyone reported enthusiastically on the weekend event, which included a very full program and which most importantly ensure d the continuity of the work of our organization with newly elected leadership. In support of Our Life , Branch 98 members voted to fund a subscription for Ilisa Debeliuk of Soyuz Ukrainok in Kyiv, Ukraine. In addition, one of our members funds a subscript ion to one of the Ukrainian Catechists in Prudentopolis, Parama, Brazil . We encourage other UNWLA branches to consider doing the same, knowing how interested and appreciative Soyuz Ukrainok of Ukraine branches are of the material published in Our Life . The magazine not only keeps them informed of our activities but also is a teaching tool, especially the English - language pages. The fundraising events during the year also included two social events: an annual picnic and a Christmas party both of which were well attended and enjoyed by all. Members also raised funds by gift - wrapping at a local Barnes and Noble book - store. A new event for the b ranch in 2008 was participation in the retail store Lord and Taylor’s “Benefit Bash.” The store invites nonprofit orga - nizations to participate in a sales day at the store with profits being returned to the organizations. Events of this kind enable us to fulfill our annual obligations to the UNWLA, the New Jersey Regional Council, and the Ukrainian Museum in New York. Du ring the year , the branch made efforts to expand its membership and to solicit speakers on topics of importance to the Ukrainian and American community. Branch 98 closed 2008 with a sense of accomplishment. This year, we are celebrating our 21st anniversa ry. Олен и Теліги , Гартфорд, Ок руга Нова Ан глія 22 - го лютого 2009 р. відбулися Загальні збори 106 - го Відділу СУА ім . Олени Теліги в Гартфорді, Коннектикут. Головою зборів була Надя Гафткович, секретарем – Тереня Глух. Окружну Управу репрезентувала Галина Шулевська, заступниця голови. Нову управу Відділу вибрано в такому складі: Галина Шулевська – голова, Меланя Кузьма – заступниця голови, Люба Кінах – протоколярна секретарка, Валентина Чудовська – кореспонденційна секретарка, Ольга Якимів – скарбник. Референтки: організаційна – Галина Балабан, мистецько - музейна – Роз Воробель, пресова (укр. мова) – Валентина Чудовська , пресова (англ. мова) – Оксана Оприско, суспільної опіки – Людмила Хмелівська, стипендійна – Меланя Кузьма, господарська – Інна Стахів і Лана Бабій, архівна – Віра Ціропалович. Контрольна комісія: Тереня Глух – голова, Олеся Коцур і Ірена Бойко – члени. Валентина Чудовська , секретарка.
