UNWLA Branch 98 of Holmdel/Mid dle - town, New Jersey, held its annual meeting on February 1, 2009, with a full agenda that included elections as well as a review of branch activities of the past year. Yaroslava Mulyk, UNWLA New Jersey Regional Council representat ive, presided over the meeting. Reelected for a second two - year term were Branch President Victoria Mischenko, Secretary Irene Krawczuk, and Treasurer M. Orysia Jacus. Luba Bilowchtchuk retained her position as Chair of the Scholarship Committee. Newly el ected members included Elizabeth Barna, Vice - President; Maria Polanskyj, Social Welfare Chair; and Anna Krawczuk, Auditing Chair. All officers submitted annual reports highlighting the branch’s accomp - lish ments in 2008. Branch 98 engaged in a variety of fund - raising and social welfare activities during 2008. The branch has a membership of only 14 women but was nevertheless able to achieve a number of important goals. We were especially proud to have raised $3,575 that was forwarded to the UNWLA National S ocial Welfare chairwoman for the flood victims in Western Ukraine. This was accomplished through the hard work of all b ranch members and the generosity of many supporters to whom we are very grateful. The February 2008 issue of Our Life was dedicated to t he 40th anniversary of the UNWLA’s Scholarship/Children - Student Sponsorship Program. The cover featured photographs of all of the chairwomen of the program since its inception, including three of our members: Anna Krawczuk, Luba Bilowchtchuk, and Maria Pol anskyj, who is the program’s current National Chairwoman. Another branch member, M. Orysia Jacus has served as program treasurer for more than 20 years and was recognized for her dedication at the XXVIII UNWLA Convention. Together with Dr. Daria Nowakiwsky - Lissy of Branch 54 (Wilmington , DE ) , these four Branch 98 members constitute the committee that administers the program. Additionally, our branch president, Victoria Mischenko, serves as the administrator of the Scholarship office in Matawan, New Jersey. We are proud of the time, energy, and hard work our volunteers devote to this important cause. Other branch members and friends have supported the Scholarship program in a variety of ways. In 2008, members raised $1,000 towards administrative costs and $7 ,375 in stipends for a Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році .
