The National Board of the UNWLA extends warmest greetings and congratulations to President Bill Clinton and the people of the United States of America as they celebrate Independence Day on the 4th of July and to President Leonid Kuchma and the people of Ukraine on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of Ukrainian independence August 24th. HONORABLE GUEST and DEAR SOYUZANKY! I am deeply honored to stand here before you as re-elected President of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America. It has indeed been an honor to serve you and our organization at many official func tions in the last three years. You gave me an opportun ity to attend meetings at the World Congress of Ukrain ians in Canada, Conferences — in Ukraine and Beijing, China and Washington, DC. At the White House ceremonies I had the opportun ity to meet President Bill Clinton, Presidents of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk and Leonid Kuchma, Vice President Albert Gore and, at the 10th Anniversary Commemora tion of Chornobyl on May 1, 1996 which I attended with Lydia Czernyk, First Lady Hillary Clinton. It was heart warming to see Ukraine recognized by the United States of America and the world! It was heartbreaking to realize that the Chornobyl nuclear tragedy still exists and its effects will last for years to come. We welcome a new start — an Ecology Chair to the UNWLA National Board! We must keep abreast with the environmental issues for earth ecology has become a global problem. We need to address it, face it and be part of the solving process. We need to leave a environmentally cleaner world to our children and grandchildren, for they are the future. As we close another chapter of the history of our organization and the 24th Convention of the UNWLA — I dare to peek at the next page...a page that belongs to the future! I envision Soyuz Ukrainok Ameryky on the information superhigway — with all the most modern information sources available — fully computerized and fully utilizing the electronic system for the benefit of our numerous activities in humanitarian, educational and cultural tasks. This is also the best way to reach young women who were brought up with the newest technol ogy and who are searching on the Internet, America on Line, or others sources for anything that may be Ukrain ian. I know that they are there! I know that we will find them and invite them to join our ranks. I believe they will. I treasure each UNWLA member and thank you again. May God Bless You. May God Bless America. May God Bless Ukraine. I thank you for your attention. Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році . A рхів C У A - Ню Йорк , Н . Й .
