CONGRA TULA TIONS AND BEST WISHES FOR A HAPPY BIRTHDA Y TO OUR DISTINGUISHED HONORARY PRESIDENT IWANNA ROZANKOWSKYJ FROM ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE UKRAINIAN NATIONAL WOMEN’S LEAGUE OF AMERICA. Round birthdays elicit philosophical ruminations and emotional outburst. Neither would be appropriate for Mrs. Iwanna Rozankowskyj. She is a woman of action, of reason, of orderly activity, and of results. During her presidency, UNWLA was able to build up on the work and achievements of past presidents and go forward uniting both the past and the future. It was largely through her efforts that UNWLA became a force to be reckoned with in the National Council of Women and through it in the Interna tional Council of Women. We saw that at international conferences, in the role the UNWLA played during the centenary of the ICW in Washington in 1988, and in the role it plays today. Ukrainian folk art often served as Ukraine’s calling card when Ukraine was silent on the international arena. Mrs. Rozankowskyj’s energy and determina tion were the major moving forces in helping the UNWLA-sponsored Ukrainian Museum in New York become widely recognized as one of the best small museums in the United States. It was largely through her efforts that the Organizational network of the UNWLA sought out younger women and initiated the dialogue that resulted in many younger members of the community becoming active in social and polit ical work, although not necessarily through the UNWLA. By her professional work and through her activities at UNWLA, Mrs. Ro zankowskyj was able to span both continents in harmonious and effective cooperation. As such she serves as a model for many women who see no tension between tradition and modernity. Her interest in the history of the Ukrainian women’s movement, and the fostering of the study of its past, did not and do not blind her from the needs of the organization and of women today. Now, as Past President, and Honorary President, her role continues in helping with the editing of Our Life. Without you, Mrs. Rozankowskyj, we can not visualize either our life or Our Life. So, with appreciation for what you have done, we wish you many happy returns in what you will continue to do. NEWS FROM THE HEADQUARTERS: The annual meeting of the UNWLA National Board will be held on October 22 and 23rd. 1994. REMINDER FROM THE UNWLA SCHOLARSHIP/ STUDENT SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM BUREAU: The academic (school year) in Europe starts in Sep tember and October. We will be most grateful to spon sors who have students in Croatia, Romania, Italy, Ukraine and other European countries, for sending donations to the UNWLA Scholarship Fund as soon as possible.
