Ukrainian costume from Kiev. Do You Like the Ukrainian Costume? and decided to sew a nice U krain ian costume for th eir girls and boys. U krainian folk costumes are very popular among our youth. The dancing groups and choirs w ear them a t th eir perform anc es. For th a t reason young girls and boys are interested in try ing to get one. The UNW LA Branch 69 in Lorain, Ohio, held a small fash ion show for this purpose. Mrs. E. Macilynsky, th e speaker, dis played three types of costumes. H er procedure was peculiar: she w ent thoroughly through every detail. Young girls who modeled appeared in long w hite shirts be fore th e audience. The speaker dressed them , explaining every p art of the costume, even to the fabric and trim m ings. The audience consisted m ost ly of m others, who wished to have an U krainian costume for th eir children. They took a live ly interest in the fashion show: m any details appeared to be new to them . They learned, w ith am azement, th a t the richly embroi dered velvet jacket is not in cor rect style. The tig h t jacket of the Ukrainian costume should not be embroidered, but trim m ed at the edge. The same thing w ith the apron. If it is made from colored silk, contrasting w ith the jacket, you can adorn it w ith a galloon only — a narrow tape like binding or trim m ing of rich m aterial, as silk or gold lace. M others asked m any questions CLEVELAND, OHIO Svyata Vetche r a E very year, soon a fter the C hristm as Holy Day, a tradition al U krainian custom is observed by all members of U krainian Ju nior League, Branch 60 of UN WLA in Cleveland, Ohio. This “Svyata V etchera” (Holy Sup per) is attended by all 60 m em bers, w ith their husbands and guests. Food is prepared by each mem ber, who annually tak e th eir tu rn in m aking a different dish for the supper.
