НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Серпень 2026 3 Наталя Павленко Natalie Pawlenko Серпень має щось особливе. Для багатьох із нас — це час родинних зустрічей, літніх тра - дицій і можливість бодай ненадовго сповіль - нити щоденний ритм життя. Але для україн - ців у всьому світі серпень приносить ще й один із найважливіших днів року — День Незалежности України. Це день гордости, вдячности та надії. З 1991 р. українці відзна - чають відновлення державної незалежности своєї Батьківщини. Нині ця незалежність що - дня виборюється мужніми жінками й чолові - ками, які продовжують боротися за свободу України. Її також зміцнюють люди в різних куточках світу, які не дозволяють собі зали - шити Україну наодинці. Саме тому діяльність нашої організації має таке велике значення. Озираючись на все, чого досягли наші осе - редки за минулий рік, я відчуваю і гордість, і щиру вдячність. По всіх США союзянки про - вели сотні просвітницьких, культурних та ад - вокаційних заходів, збирали кошти на гума - нітарну й медичну допомогу, підтримували стипендіальні програми, вітали нових член - кинь і передавали українську мову, традиції та історію наступному поколінню. Частина з переліченого втілюється на великих публіч - них заходах. Але значно більше робиться тихо й непомітно — завдяки незліченним го - динам волонтерства, що часто залишається поза увагою. Наш щойно опублікований Річний звіт за 2025 р. лише частково відображає те, чого ми досягли спільними зусиллями. За кож - ною його сторінкою стоять віддані волон - терки, які щедро жертвують свій час, знання, таланти й ресурси, бо щиро вірять у нашу місію. Кожен благодійний захід, кожна освіт - ня програма, кожна пожертва і кожен прояв доброти мають значення. Літо добігає кінця, і я сподіваюся, що кожна з вас мала нагоду провести час з ро - диною та друзями й насолодитися красою цієї пори року. Навіть тоді, коли наші серця залишаються з Україною та людьми, які що - дня переживають неймовірні випробування, важливо пам’ятати і про себе. Час для відпо - чинку й відновлення сил допомагає нам і на - далі служити нашій справі з новою енергією та наснагою. 24 серпня, святкуючи День Незалежности України, пам’ятаймо, що свобода не є тим, що можна сприймати як належне. Уже по - над сто років Союз Українок Америки стоїть поряд з Україною в часи випробувань і надії. І надалі, разом, ми продовжуватимемо цю місію — з милосердям, рішучістю та незмін - ною любов’ю до України. There is something special about August. For many of us, it brings family gatherings, summer traditions, and a chance to slow down, even if only for a little while. But for Ukrainians everywhere, August also brings one of the most meaningful days of the year — Ukraine’s Independence Day. It is a day of pride, gratitude, and hope. Since 1991, Ukrainians have celebrated the return of their country’s independence. Today, that independence is being defended every day by brave men and women who continue to fight for Ukraine’s freedom. It is also strengthened by people around the world who refuse to let Ukraine stand alone. That is why the work of our organization is so important. As I think about everything our branches have accomplished this past year, I feel both proud and grateful. Across the country, Soyuzianky have organized hundreds of educational, cultural, and advocacy events, raised funds for humanitarian and medical aid, supported scholarships, welcomed new members, and shared our language, traditions, and history with the next generation. Some of this work happens at large public events. Much of it happens quietly, through countless volunteer hours that often go unnoticed. Our recently published 2025 Annual Report gives just a glimpse of what our members have achieved together. Behind every page are dedicated volunteers who continue to give their time, talent, and resources because they believe in our mission. Every fundraiser, every educational program, every donation, and every act of kindness makes a difference. As summer winds down, I hope you had a chance to spend time with family and friends and enjoy the beauty of the season. Even as our hearts remain with Ukraine and the people who continue to endure unimaginable hardship, it is important that we also care for ourselves. Taking time to rest and recharge helps us continue this work with renewed energy and purpose. On August 24, as we celebrate Ukraine’s Independence Day, let us remember that freedom is never something to be taken for granted. For more than 100 years, the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America has stood with Ukraine through times of hardship and hope.
