НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Серпень 2026 19 ДІЯЛЬНІСТЬ ВІДДІЛІВ І ЧЛЕНКИНЬ • BRANCH & MEMBER NEWS Ukraine, and also to our local community (such as women’s shelters and food banks) and around the world. UNWLA Branch 56 was christened in 1991. Its first president was Maria Nawarynsky of Venice, FL. With 78 members — including one of its origi - nal founding members, Anna Pawliw-Mariani — it remains one of the UNWLA’s largest branches. Many of the branch’s numerous achievements over the past 35 years were celebrated at the anni - versary gala. Among the highlights: • Branch 56 has given more than $106,000 in scholarships to students. • The branch teamed up with the Ukrainian American Medical Association to buy and deliver crucial life-saving portable medical equipment to medics who are working on the front lines of rus- sia’s war on Ukraine. • Branch 56 made a significant donation to a pediatric hospital in Ukraine this past year after a very successful fund-raising event. • The branch launched what would become a nationwide initiative to manufacture and supply female combat soldiers — Zemliachky — with specially designed uniforms, combat boots, flap jackets, and essential feminine supplies and equip - ment, working on the project with Ukrainian man- ufacturers to avoid shipping expenses and support local businesses. Many of these women soldiers have male family members fighting in the war or children who have been kidnapped by russian in - vaders. Bohdana Puzyk, current Branch 56 president, welcomed guests to the banquet and recounted the many projects that the branch has success - fully undertaken. Natalie Santarsiero, president of Branch 136 in Naples, FL, and UNWLA Branches- at-Large president, presented Bohdana with a cer - tificate commemorating the 35th anniversary and donated a book to the members of Branch 56. As a representative of the National Board, Natalie Santarsiero read a letter from UNWLA President Natalie Pawlenko lauding Branch 56 for its many achievements and generous contributions. Lidia Bilous’s committee enlisted Bohdana Puzyk to assemble an exhaustive array of photos, conven- tion books, and news articles documenting the his - tory of Branch 56, which were displayed inside the church hall for guests to peruse. Guests remained well after the meal was served to socialize, reluc- tant to leave old and new friends. Photo: B. Puzyk Photo: P. Zalisko Photo: P. Zalisko Photo: P. Zalisko
