Celebrating Talent and Tradition The artistic program brought the room to life with music, dance, and poetry. A highlight of the evening was the recognition of Oksana Lukiv of Branch 73, whose poem “UNWLA Lives Through Generations” earned second place nationwide in the UNWLA Poetry Contest. Her work, rich with intergenerational wisdom, resonated deeply with the audience. Other performances throughout the evening showcased the breadth of Ukrainian creativity in New England. A dramatic staging of “Zozulia” by Branch 54 of the Ukrainian American Youth Association (CYM) in Stamford, CT, under the direction of Ruslana Tataryn, set an expressive tone. Musical performances by Oksana and Viktor Kit, including the stirring “Kozatskyi Dukh,” and a violin solo by Oksana Kit added emotional depth. Yuliya Erdeichuk, accompanied by pianist Ihor Yuziuk, offered lyrical interpretations of Ukraini- an classics, while Lyubomyr Chermak delivered a tender rendition of “Chy Ty, Myla, Spysh.” Notable performances by younger members of the com- munity added a sense of generational continuity: accordionist Daniel Kocan offered a gentle, nos- talgic interpretation of “Mamyna Sorochka," and Stefania and Melania Korenovsky, together with a talented collective of young dancers, performed a piece symbolizing the passing of Ukrainian tra- ditions to the next generation — a moment that captured the very essence of the centennial cele- bration. A Community United in Gratitude and Giving Organizers expressed heartfelt thanks to the UNWLA National Board, branch presidents, performers, vol - unteers, sponsors, and every guest who joined in marking this historic milestone. The Regional Coun - cil announced that proceeds from the celebration would support two projects close to the UNWLA’s heart: the Support Ukrainian Children Fund and medical aid for hospitals in Ukraine. The announce - ment was met with warm applause, reflecting the community’s lasting commitment to helping those most affected by the ongoing war with russia. The spirit of generosity flowed throughout the evening as guests participated in a charitable auction, raf - fle, and donation table. It was an atmosphere of shared purpose — an entire community coming to- gether to support Ukraine’s children and honor the UNWLA’s humanitarian mission. A Century Behind Us, a Future Ahead As the New England Regional Council reflects on the centennial celebration, one truth stands out: the UNWLA’s mission remains as vital today as it was in 1925. The women who gathered in New Ha- ven honored the legacy of those who came before them — and renewed their commitment to carry - ing that legacy forward. One hundred years is a remarkable achievement, but for the incredible women powering the activities of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of Amer - ica, it is a promise that their work — and their leg- acy — will continue to shape generations to come.
