The Prime Minister thanked everyone for the warm welcome, expressing his gratitude (and surprise) that the diaspora has preserved and nur- tured the Ukrainian language. He then delineated his point-by-point plans for Ukraine, touching on topics about which we Ukrainian Americans have heard over and over (health care, the military, the business landscape, etc.) and explaining that he would attempt to make progress despite the nu- merous obstacles that are plaguing the country— corruption being the highest on the list of these ob- stacles. The meeting was wrapped up by a closing statement from UCCA’s President Tamara Gallo, who said that the diaspora is willing to do all it can to support Ukraine here in the United States but would also like to see positive changes in Ukraine. In the view of this observer (and I dare say this reflects the views of members of other dias- pora organizations who attended), there was noth- ing new or especially innovative in the Prime Min- ister’s speech; conversing with a few of the other attendees after the event, I got the distinct impres- sion that the desire to believe was there but was overridden by skepticism stemming from past dis- illusionment. We should, however, be fair and see how things evolve. Mr. Groysman, after all, has only been serving as Ukraine’s PM for two months; unraveling and addressing the numerous prob- lems that exist in Ukraine will not be a quick or easy task. We wish the newly elected Prime Minis- ter much success and fervently hope that positive changes will be forthcoming and will be justly ap- plied for the good of every “ordinary” Ukrainian citizen! Our Life Cover Artist Dianna Derhak, an American artist of Ukrainian descent, has had a lifelong passion for art and works primarily in oils and acrylics. The artist is inspired by the beauty of nature, light, shadow and color and is currently focusing on creating a body of work of large scale florals. For Dianna, the flower is a metaphor for inspiration, spiritual unfolding, and the inner journey. Her art education is ongoing. Primarily self- taught, she has also studied with Dominic Vignola, Joan Saba, and Paul Taggart. Ms. Derhak’s studio is located in Buffalo, and her work has recently been featured at exhibitions held at the Buffalo Botanical Gardens and the Tri-Main Center in Buffalo, New York. Наша обкладинка Діанна Дергак – американська художниця українського походження. Вона має довічну пристрасть до мистецтва і малює в основному олією і акрилом. В даний час мисткиня зосереджена на створенні серії картин великих квітів. Вона натхненна красою природи, світла, тіні і кольору. Для Діанни квітка – це метафора для натхнення і духовного розгортання внутрішнього життя. Її художня освіта триває. Починаючи, в основному самоучкою, вона навчалася з Домініком Віґнола, Джоном Саба і Полом Таґґартом. Художня студія пані Дергак знаходиться в Баффало. Останні виставки мисткині відбулися у Ботанічному городі й Tri-Main Center в Баффало, штат Ню Йорк.
