Олена Карпинич. ______________________________ ART SHOW AND SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER BY BRANCH 124 OF ST. PETERSBURG, FL ORIDA by Olya N. Czerkas Women around the world are considered to be th e heart and soul of the family. We often see them working in the community, caring for the family, and assisting wherever help is needed. We are aware of their gentleness, strength, lea d- ership, and many attributes exhibited daily . Y et, we are often surprised to find that our friends have an artistic talent we knew nothing about. Who holds these secrets? How do we l o- cate the artists who have these remarkable ta l- ents? These women nee d to be recognized! The search began. Many calls were made, meetings were held, and by October 26 th , 2013, the day of our 1 st Art Show, there were twenty - two artists who volunteered to display their work and participate in this important fund raiser for the UNWLA Scholarship Fund. A s participants brought in their cherished pieces of art to the Art Show , held in the parish center of Epiphany of Our Lord Ukrainian Cath o- lic Church , excitement was almost palpable. The once empty room was quickly transformed i nto a showcase of beautiful displays. The room filled with conversation, laughter, and brightly colored paintings, each unique in style and design. Pain t- ings were created using various media such as oils, acrylics, and water colors, and some were on silk. Walls were brightened by photographs, some being strikingly crisp black and white prints, ot h- ers showing eclectic designs, and still others hig h- lighting the beautiful scenery of Ukraine. Tables around the room were quickly covered with pieces of art. One t able displayed the delicately blown glass pieces with many swirls and curves, while another held painted glass goblets and glass that c ould ador n any table or home. Yet a nother table was decorated for the Easter season with Ukrain i- an pysanky and explanatio ns of the intricate d e- signs drawn on the eggs. Beautifully beaded gerdany were placed on velvet fabric that brought sparkle to each arrangement. Exquisite embro i- dery flowed over the table that displayed unique pieces from different regions of Ukraine. Tryp illian - style ceramic pieces stood out because
