“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЖОВТЕНЬ 2011 21 Marianna Za jac and President of Branch # 8 Marianna Zajac giving pryvit from UNWLA Dozia Kr y slaty, with committee members. National Board/keynote speech. Once we returned from our busy trip to Ukraine, it was my pleasure to once again get on the road – this time to Cleveland, Ohio. Branch #8 and the Ohio Regional Council were rededicating the famous Mykhailo Chereshnovsky statue of Le sya Ukrainka, which can be found in the beautiful Cleveland Cultural Gardens. The Regional Council warmly welcomed me and my husband on Saturday the 27 th of August for a lovely dinner and informal meeting with the attending members. I was happy to share “h ot off the presses” information about our trip to Ukraine. Sunday’s formal blessing and ribbon cutting was a lovely ceremony, with clergy and Mayor of Cleveland and Congressman Dennis Kucinich in attendance. As the keynote speaker at this event, I shared t he original history of Branch 30’s focus and determination to complete this majestic monument fifty years ago, and expressed my thanks and praise for Branch 8’s dedication to restoring the luster and magnificent beauty of the monument as well as grooming t he surrounding grounds. We were proud to announce this rededication of the Lesya Ukrainka monument in our report at the Ukrainian World Congress conference in Kyiv! It was clear from the commentary of the participants in Cleveland that without the initiati ve and hard work of Branch #8 President, Dozia Kryslaty, this project would not have come to fruition and would not have culminated in this major accomplishment! Congratulations, President Kryslaty! Fall will soon be greeting us as the National Board plan s for its annual meeting in October. We will be focusing on two projects at this year’s meeting – the Pediatric Burn Unit and the proposal of the Ukrainian Catholic University’s Gender/Women Studies Lectureship. These are two projects which, in addition to making a marked difference to those directly affected by the results, will raise the level and prestige of UNWLA undertakings. Let us review the resolutions passed at the Convention in May (available in the July/August 2011 issue of Our Life ) and focus on making this a productive year for our organization. God bless! Marianna Zajac , President, UNWLA
