For many years, she has been involved in a project to update and upgrade the level of education in these schools and provide appropriate surroundings for the children — giving them the necessary tools of edu cation. For this purpose, she has started an organization — Integrated Care Society — which offers volunteers and money. Through her efforts each school is being enhanced by the creation of a library for the students, which she considers most important. “How can you learn or think or know if there are no books?” she asks. Mrs. Mubarek has also been instrumental in establishing public libraries, four of which are complete and in use. THE UKRAINIAN MUSEUM: A CULTURAL EXPERIENCE Following its longtime tradition, the Ukrainian Museum will once again offer courses in woodcarving and em broidery. W O O D C A R V IN G : F e b ru a ry 15 — A p ril 26, 1986 Tim e: Saturdays, 1-4 p.m. Fee: adults -$ 55; senior citizens & students over 16 -$ 50; children 12-16 free; members -15% discount. The course is geared both to the beginner and the advanced student. Participants will learn low relief woodcarving techniques used by craftsmen in the Car pathian Mountains. Using tools specifically produced for the Museum the students will learn and master the intricate motifs that are used to decorate both func tional and decorative objects, such as album covers, crosses and boxes. This course is also offered to beginners, as well as, advanced embroiderers. Beginners will be introduced to the basic stitches of traditional Ukrainian embroidery. Advanced participants will work with more technical stitches including cut-work, drawn-work and crewel stitch. The course will also explore the history, evolu tion of styles, techniques, colors, threads and fabrics used traditionally in various regions of the Ukraine. Children registering for these courses must be at least 12 years of age. All materials are covered in the registration fee. Fin ished objects may be kept by the students.
