НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Червень-Липень 2026 3 Наталя Павленко Natalie Pawlenko Червень завжди сприймається як місяць змін Завершується навчальний рік, починаєть - ся літо, і багато хто з нас замислюється про людей та організації, які вплинули на наше життя. Це також місяць, коли ми вшановує - мо батьків, дідусів, чоловіків, синів, братів та багатьох інших чоловіків, які тихо підтри - мують жінок у своєму житті. Їхня підтримка, партнерство та жертовність часто роблять нашу працю можливою, і за це ми їм щиро вдячні. Поки я пишу ці рядки, Україна продовжує зазнавати одних із найпотужніших атак від початку повномасштабного вторгнення ро - сії. Міста по всій країні щоночі потерпають від ракетних і дронових ударів, а наслідки війни дедалі більше відчуваються й за ме - жами України. Ці події нагадують нам, що боротьба за свободу, безпеку та правду ще далеко не завершена. У такі часи легко зосередитися лише на нагальній кризі. Проте історія вчить нас, що майбутнє нації визначають не лише ті, хто боронить її на полі бою, але й ті, хто від по - коління до покоління зберігає її ідентичність, культуру та цінності. Понад століття Союз Українок Америки (СУА) є частиною цієї праці. Наші засновни - ці розуміли, що інституції мають значення, тому що вони забезпечують тяглість. Вони створюють простір, де передаються знання, зберігаються традиції, виховуються лідери та зміцнюються громади. Найважливішим є те, що вони дають змогу кожному новому поколінню не починати все з нуля. Нині ми продовжуємо цю місію по-ново - му. Ми відстоюємо інтереси України, підтри - муємо гуманітарні ініціативи, надаємо сти - пендії, поширюємо знання про українську культуру за межами нашої громади та нала - годжуємо і розвиваємо зв’язки між поколін - нями. Усе це відбувається не завдяки будівлі чи назві. Це відбувається тому, що люди сві - домо вкладають свій час, таланти та ресурси у справу, більшу за самих себе. У літні місяці закликаю кожну з нас замис - литися, як ми можемо допомогти оновлюва - ти й зміцнювати інституції, які цінуємо. Чи то через волонтерство, наставництво, участь у діяльності відділу, чи просто запросивши ко - гось нового до спільноти СУА — кожен наш крок допомагає забезпечити продовження цієї праці. Сила Союзу Українок Америки ніколи не була силою однієї людини. Вона завжди була в людях, які несуть його місію вперед. Саме так і зберігається спадщина. June always feels like a month of transition. The school year comes to a close, summer begins, and many of us find ourselves thinking about the people and organizations that have shaped our lives. It is also a month when we celebrate fathers, grandfathers, husbands, sons, brothers, and the many men who quietly support the women in their lives. Their encour - agement, partnership, and sacrifice often make our work possible, and for that we are grateful. As I write this, Ukraine continues to face some of the most intense attacks since the start of the full-scale invasion. Cities across the coun - try endure nightly missile and drone strikes, and the war’s impact is increasingly felt beyond Ukraine’s borders. These developments remind us that the struggle for freedom, security, and truth remains far from over. In times like these, it is easy to focus only on the immediate crisis. Yet history teaches us that a nation’s future is shaped not only by those who defend it on the battlefield, but also by those who preserve its identity, culture, and values over generations. For more than a century, the UNWLA has been part of that effort. Our founders under - stood that institutions matter because they create continuity. They provide a place where knowledge is shared, traditions are preserved, leaders are developed, and communities are strengthened. Most importantly, they ensure that each generation does not have to begin from scratch. Today, we continue that work in new ways. We advocate for Ukraine, support humanitar - ian initiatives, provide scholarships, share our culture beyond our own community, and build connections between generations. None of this happens because of a building or a name. It happens because people choose to invest their time, talents, and resources in something larg - er than themselves. As we move into the summer months, I en - courage each of us to consider how we can help renew the institutions we value. Whether through volunteering, mentoring, participating in a branch activity, or simply inviting someone new into our UNWLA community, every action helps ensure that the work continues. The strength of the UNWLA has never been found in any one individual. It has always been found in the people who carry its mission for - ward. And that is how a legacy endures.
