Just when we think we know the expected outcome of something, w e e x- perience a pleasant, heartwarming surprise. That’s what happened to me when Our Life published the article about The Night Sky , the memoir of my 43 - year journey to find my lost family. To honor my Mother’s memory, and to help young Ukrainian girls have a chance at a better life, I offered a donation of 50% of the sales proceeds to the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America Scholarship Fund. Within a few days after the publication of the article, my mailbox began filling up with orders for the book. Not only did I receive many requests for The Night Sky ; I was also delightfully astonished by the many purchasers who sent be autiful letters, books, poetry, and email messages stating how much they had enjoyed the story. Below are just a few excerpts from what some readers wrote: “Words...conversations...dialogues — we encounter them daily; they rendezvous by design and by acc i- d ent, literally and figuratively. Nonetheless, when thirteen - year - old Maria overheard a conversation in Colorado on that fateful Fourth of July in 1961, she had no inkling that it would have such profound implications and repercussions not only on her life and on the lives of hundreds of her family members scattered over two continents, but also on the lives of the many strangers who would read her memoir decades later.” – Y aroslava Benko “Mandrivnyk” “I have finished your book and I am very impressed. It represents quite an effort on your part, with both happy and unhappy results. Your description of Ukraine, especially Lviv, reminds me of my childhood. We lived in Lviv, but we also visited nearby farms owned by our relatives, as well as resort areas in the Carpathians. I remember going to the St. George Cathedral on Sundays, and to the local school (first and second grades). I am very happy that you wrote this book. ” – George Halushynsky Readers wishing to write a review may do so on the Goodreads, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble websites.
