We all seem to have more r esponsibilities and more issues and situations to manage , and this creates more stress. Stress, in turn, can lead to anger, and this concomitant anger creates its own collateral damage. The best way to confront most pr oblems is to understand what they are. So let’s begin with the basics: What actually is stress? The simplest definition of stress is that it is the feeling generated when you have to handle more than you normally are accustomed to manage. This feeling beco mes “physical” when the body responds in a flight or fight manner. At times , this response can be useful — for example, if you are running a race or exerting energy to complete an important task. But if this happens too often or if the stress is prolonged, i t exerts negative effects on the body, which manifest themselves as h eadaches, gastrointestinal issues, weakening of the immune system, worsening already underlying medical issues, mood iness , tens ion, or depress ion . Another side effect of prolonged and unr elenting stress is that it f requently leads to words of anger , generating more stress and varying degrees of regret or guilt. Common sense makes it easy to see that stress is not good for body, mind, or spirit. So the wise move here is to find and nurture the strength and skills needed to manage stress and its nasty little partner anger. After all, the purpose of life is to live and to enjoy living to the fullest. Doing this means nurturing a positive attitude and tak ing advantage of good suggestions and a dvice about navigat ing through stressful times and situations. Let’s start with a game . Imagine what you could do if you were totally s tress free . Imagine how much happier you would be . Then i magine this stress - free existence as an enduring aspect of your life that you can take with you into that evolving future. Pretty attractive prospect, no? Now p romise yourself this life change and read on to see what you can do to help make it happen. The suggests below may not eliminate all the things that stress you out, but they might very well help you get more and better control of things.
