16 “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, КВІТЕНЬ 2010 As was discussed at the UNWLA National Board meeting in October, the Executive Committee has adopted a more proactive approach to communicating with Reg ional Councils and, by extension, with UNWLA branches as well. During the February 20 meeting, each member of the Executive Committee was paired with a specific Regional Council or with the Liaisons for Branches and Members at Large. Contact between the Ex ecutive Committee members and their counterpart liaisons will occur on a quarterly basis, and will focus on plans, successes, and/or challenges. The philosophy behind this new approach is that open, more frequent discussions will promote and emphasize that we are members of ONE national organization. We thank the Regional Council p residents in advance for their cooperation. This year, the United Nations is asking member organizations to disseminate information on issues of UN concern, such as trafficking o f children and women, HIV/AIDS, migration, climate change, human rights violations, the economic crisis and how it affects civil society organizations, equality for women, and other issues. In response to this UN appeal, through the efforts of WFUWO repres entative to the UN Nadia Shmigel, the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations and the UNWLA are arranging a joint presentation on the preservation of a healthy environment. The featured presenter for this event will be Moki Kokoris, a teacher o f polar ecology in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Kokoris is the United Nations Representative for WFUWO, which is also a non - governmental organization in consultative status with the Department of Public Information of the UN, and has been appointed to the Plan ning Committee for the Conference on Climate Change. The program, scheduled for March 27, 2010, will be presented to students of the Ukrainian Saturday Schools of SUM and “Obyedynnia Ukraintsiv v Amerytsi Samopomich” in New York City.
