“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, СІЧЕНЬ 2009 18 This month brings the swearing- in of our newly elected President in our nation’s capital. The UNWLA is one of the supporting organizations of a reception to be held by the U.S-Ukraine Business Council at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, D.C., on January 21, in honor of the inauguration of Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States. The UNWLA offers its continued support for the continued constructive and friendly relations between the people of the United States and those of Ukraine. We wish the incoming leader of this great country health and success as he begins the very difficult road of ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens during these economically uncertain times that affect all of us. We also trust that the U.S. government will further support Ukraine’s continuing road to economic and political stability. In the name of the Executive Board, allow me to wish our UNWLA membership and all of our dedicated readers much health and happiness for a 2009 filled with God’s blessings. Let us pledge to work together to achieve the UNWLA goals formulated during our recent convention and summarized in the past three issues of Our Life . Best wishes for health and happiness in the coming year. Marianna Zajac President Notes from the Editor Milestone. Our Life is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year, and we hope to focus on this theme in the issues to be published this year by featuring articles, archival materials, photographs and illustrations that encapsulate the history of the magazine, those who envisioned it, and those who nurtured it over successive decades. We hope that readers will help us in this endeavor by sending letters or commentaries about Our Life’s past and suggestions for what they would like to see in future issues. Project Brag Pages. This month also marks the tenth anniversary of the death of Lydia Burachynska, a former UNWLA president and long-time editor of Our Life . One of the most appealing features of the issues edited by Ms. Burachynska during the 1960s and 1970s was a concerted effort to illustrate that members of our UNWLA community had daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, nieces, cousins, and goddaughters who were interesting young women in their own right and enjoying academic, artistic, or professional successes. In the hope of resurrecting what I consider a dormant treasure that has been given only minimal attention over the previous two decades, I invite UNWLA members to forward articles, paragraphs, or even lists about the young ladies in their lives who deserve recognition for their accomplishments. Please forward your submissions to editor Tamara Stadnychenko c/o UNWLA headquarters. We ask that all contributors include a telephone number to allow us to acknowledge submissions and verify information. _____________________ Corrections. On the back inside cover of October-November and December 2008 issues, the list of Executive Board and National Board members was not updated to reflect post-election and administrative changes. The new UNWLA Corresponding Secretary is Daria Drozdovska. The current president of New England Regional Council is Zoryana Mishtal. The current president of New York – Central Regional Council is Maria Cade. The current co- presidents of New York – North Regional Council are Zinnia Dzus-DeBole and Didi Butenko. On the front inside cover of these issues, we also inadvertently neglected to note that Lidia Babiuk Slysh is a member of Our Life ’s editorial board.
